Las Ramblas Street

After we had our lunch, we continue our walk throughout Las Ramblas, the famous street in Barcelona. It is approximately 1.2 kilometres long, where one could enjoy people watching, street performer, human statue art, painting etc. Besides that, there are lot of restaurants and outdoor cafes to enjoy a cup of drinks in the cooling weather. It's just the start of winter season, so it is not as cold as Andorra and we no need to wear the thick winter clothing.

When we walked towards the end of the of the street, we reached upon the port, Port Vell it is called. Over here, we could see a complex with shops, IMAX theater and a very large aquarium. However, we didn't continue our walk to the shopping center, and make our turn back to the hotel direction where we were staying.

Just besides the Port Vell, there is a huge roundabout with Monument of Colombus in the middle of it. One could go up to the monument, but we didn't take the opportunity as it is getting dark. We just strolling back the street and enjoying the performance there. What amazed me that time was the clear sky and 'line' formed by the plane on the sky.

History:
Referred to both as La Rambla and Las Ramblas, the name derives from an old Arabic word 'ramla' meaning sandy riverbed, and indeed that's how this magnificent boulevard started - as a humble dried-out stream outside the walls of the Gothic Quarter. At the start of the 18th century the first houses were constructed, and only by the end of the 18th century did La Rambla start to appear in something like its present form, a sweeping tree-lined boulevard in the centre of the city. The street also known as Les Rambles in Catalan.

The streets that form the Las Ramblas are:

- Rambla de Santa Monica
- Rambla de Mar

There are many human statues on the street, where one could see while strolling down the street. There were many statues, where I only managed to captured some of them. There were alien, 'the mask', painters and many more.

I would recommend to stay at this street, as it is convenience to travel around. Actually we were staying at near to Placa Catalunya. We actually bought our Barcelona City Card over here, for 2 days. This include the unlimited ride of public transport as well as discount for entrance to places like Nou Camp, museums and many more. Besides that, the metro station just besides our walking distance, making our travelling easier.

Euskal Restaurant

We just came from Andorra, and luckily we had a helpful cab driver asking the direction to our hotel. Once we had settled down, we came for this restaurant. This restaurant was recommended by Serene, she just came here few months ago. We came here to try out the paella and sangria.

It's quit easy to find this restaurant. Located at the famous La Rambla street, next to Mercat de Sant Josep, the famous market at La Rambla.

Inside the restaurant, it has 2 floors. However, we were sitting at the ground floor, as only 2 of us (my colleague & myself). The decoration is nice inside it, with multiple countries feeling like United Nation. However, I found the waiter quite slow when response to our request.

I've ordered a seafood (paella marinera) and beer as my lunch. It came in hot plate, which is meaning of paella, means "pan" in old French word. There are 2 shrimp in it, which I accidentally injured by tongue (bleeding) while eating it. Besides that, it also consists of mussels etc.

My colleague ordered mixed paella (paella mixta). It has chicken and mussels.

Overall, the food here taste nice, but I guess it's quite pricy. Based on the feedback from tripadvisor, the review for this restaurant wasn't good (based on the address of this restaurant). However, I just couldn't bother other people's review, but to try it myself first. It would be good to ask the price before ordering the food at this restaurant, just to make sure you won't get a surprise later on when the bill come.

Hotel Plaza Andorra

Once we reached Andorra, we check-in to the hotel. By the time, I started to feels tired. Not able to sleep well during the flight, and we continue our journey straight away to Andorra from Barcelona. When we entered the hotel, it was a nice hotel, having sunray coming in from the rooftop of the hotel. The hotel is located in the midst of the shopping and business area.

In the middle of the lobby, there is a piano. However, during my stay here, I remember I never see someone playing the piano. Not sure if someone playing it while I'm away for work during the normal hour.

When entering my room, for me it's quite a nice decoration in the room. Guess there was no king size bed, they only combined 2 bed to become a single bed. Besides the bed, it was window facing the car park and a nice mountain view.

The hotel is equipped with basic thing. TV, water boiler etc. There is no iron and board for me to ironning my clothes. However, there is a machine attached to the wall, meant for ironning the pants. Not sure whether this is normal, but it was the first time I see the equipment.

The washroom was nicely decorated. It is very English-style, and 2 basins and mirrors. Very clean indeed.

Everyday the staff will replenish the shampoo and body shampoo. The hotel also provided hand cream to apply. The weather was cold, and hence our skin easily dry. Very thoughtful for the hotel to include the cream as well.

This is the view I see from my room everyday. At the mountain top, there was ice spotted. I was told by the local people here that the mountain will be covered by ice at the end of the year, and it looks more beautiful that time. I really enjoy the view over here.

However, the heater is always on, and I guess there is no controller for it. The same was told by another colleague. So I open the windows to let the cold wind comes in to neutralize the heat inside the room. Though facing car park, by night the area is very quite as by the shop closed quite early. Overall, I like the location and services provided by the hotel here.

Journey from Barcelona to Andorra

I was assigned for a business trip to Andorra for 3 days. Together with another colleague, both of us travelled to Barcelona via Singapore. Upon reaching the airport, we were waiting for our counterpart whom flew in from Madrid. Before starting our journey, we bought some waters. The journey took about 2.5 hours by cab from Barcelona to Andorra.

Andorra has less than 100,000 population with area about 467.63 km² (based on the information I've found in Wikipedia before my trip to Andorra). This is smaller than Singapore in term of population and the geographical size. Andorra is a small landlocked country in southwestern Europe, located in the eastern Pyrenees mountains and bordered by Spain and France where the official language is Catalan.

Though we were tired after 13 hours flight, we were excited to travel here. It was our first time to Andorra anyway, and hopefully it won't be the last as well. The weather wasn't good at the beginning, but turning to a better later on. I was captivated by the landscape while on the way there. Even though feels sleepy, I still make myself awake in order not to miss such a beautiful scenery.

The highway journey only about half the journey, then we turned into coastal road before reaching Andorra. We passed by a small city called "Guardiola"... familiar with the name? Current Barcelona FC coach is Josep Guardiola or better known as Pep Guardiola, we were not sure whether there is any relationship between these 2 names... Haha.... Since the name came out, the rest of the journey was associated with football.

Along the way, we also passed by a beautiful water dam. Since this is mountainous area, it should be a good area to have the water catchment area. Hence, this make our journey more pleasant. Besides that, we also passed by a small medieval town. However, we continue on with our journey hence not able to capture any photo with my iPhone. The nature beauty along the way captivated my heart, such a peaceful area without those rat race life in city.

Local Food in Ghana

During my stay in Ghana, I didn't go out to restaurant for lunch, or even for dinner. For my lunch, usually the local partner will bought the food from outside and usually I ordered the normal food which I take in Malaysia. And for dinner, I also did the same, ordered the normal food.

After few days, the local partner said I must tried the Ghanaian cuisine and they bought me this food. The food is made up of plantain, bean and underneath the bean was fish. It was nice, but for me the bean is too much and creamy. I thought with the size, I could finish my lunch but at the end I couldn't even though it tastes nice.

Paloma Hotel

I was assigned to Ghana to conduct training for a local partner in Accra. The hotel was booked by the partner for me, though I didn't expect much for the hotel. However, upon checking in to the hotel, the perception changed to better.

The hotel has lot of mural reflecting the joy in the country. One could see it on the walls, either on the pathway to my room or even at the restaurant. It can be seen trumpet, drum etc rejoicing on their daily life. At least seeing this everyday could make our life happier.

The restaurant looks a bit classic for me. It gives me the natural feeling. I would say the food in the restaurant not bad, however the portion is quite big for me. Most of the time I couldn't finish the food that I've ordered, what a waste even though I tried very hard to finish it. I also like the coffee served here every morning.

Generally, the staff here is friendly. During the stay, just has a little comment on the wifi services where the signal wasn't very strong when inside the room.

When heading to airport on Friday, the jam was quite terrible. By the time reached airport, the person told the counter was closed for check-in. Wow, what a surprise to me even though it's 1 hour before the flight (at least on my watch). The jam was terrible on the way to airport, due to Friday. If I missed the flight, I need to wait for another 2 days to catch for the next flight, not knowing whether there was any available seat or not. But when confront again the counter and reasoning with them, luckily they allow me to check-in. Actually I've done my online check-in the night before. Once I'm at the departure hall, I need to wait for another 30 minutes before allow to boarding the plane.

It's a quite a adventurous experience for me for my first trip to Ghana. The memory of almost missing my flight will always stay in my mind forever.

Levain Boulangerie & Patisserie

This was the second visit for Serene but this is the first time I came here. We reached here about 4.00pm after did some visiting with my sister and brother-in-law. Together 4 of us came here for a late tea time. We just want to come here to try out some of the bread and relaxing ourselves during the weekend. Since we came here late, the crowd is considered ok. There is a car jockey available, to my surprise.

By the time we reached here, I like the place as it is located at quiet street in city center, furthermore at colonial style bungalows with classic and cosy environment gave further umpphh... The breads and pastries offered here are baked in a specially imported stone oven. Averagely, 4 new items are introduced every month.

Inside Levain, it is a 2 storey-bungalow decorated in neo-classical environment and has high ceiling, give us a spacious feeling (not those normal rat race of city life). Once we found an empty table, we went to order our own foods.

There weren't much choice of breads available for us. Guess fresh and popular breads were sold in short period of time once placed on the shelves. We ordered a maple log bread to be shared.

Since I liked durian so much, I just couldn't resists the tempatation when seeing durian cheesecake. The durian taste is strong enough, but I guess is a bit sweet for me.

I also ordered a bolognese spaghetti to share with Serene. Nothing much special for us. For other foods ordered, I couldn't have enough time to take photos before the foods end up in my sister and brother-in-law's stomach.

Another famous thing in Levain is their macaroons and cookies. I just loved too see those colorful macaroons on the display, though we didn't order any on our trip this time. We do hope to taste some in next visit.

Also famous for their cakes, this could be a good afternoon hang out place with friends to catch up or relaxing through out the weekend. No wonder lot of my friends told me this place is packed during weekend.

Recommend to come over here to try out the food, those English style evening tea and the environment here. At least this is something different, and unique enough that this is located in bustling city center yet at a quite corner of city life.

Ijok Beggar Chicken @ New Beggar's Delicious Restaurant

We came here before, but this round it was with my brother-in-law's family. Before we came here, we already book in advance the meal. The owner has make the life simple, as they has a menu set for us to choose from. It was 9-meal course that we ordered. So it would be good that could bring 10 adults (I mean those really can fill up their stomach) to enjoy the food here.

1. The signature Beggar's Chicken
Firstly we were served with the famous beggar's chicken. It came out hot from the "oven" as shown in the picture above. It was wrapped in foil pouch, outer layer with clay and put into the "oven" until it is cooked. This is done to other's beggar's delight as well. The chicken was stuffed with chinese herbs. It tasted delicious especially the gravy made up of the chicken juices and the chinese herbs.

2. Glutinous Rice or Loh Mai Fan
Another dish that we like. It is made up of salted egg yolks, dried shrimps, mushroom and pork. It was one of the best that we have tasted before, tender and soft. However, can't take much of it as we still need to reserve our 'tank' for other dishes.

3. Beggar's Pork Knuckles
A bit high cholesterol as more fat than meat. The meat is served together with yam. The meat easily came off from the bone, and the meat was tender. Everyone just enjoy this, and just remind ourselves that it's ok to indulge the food once in a while.

4. Beggar's Duck
The last of beggar's delight served on the table, the beggar's duck. The food was prepared the same way like beggar's chicken. The duck was stuffed with chinese herb. Not sure how they prepared the dish, but again the duck's meat was tender and melt-in-your-mouth type. A bit different from the roasted duck easily found in the city. However, the gravy is not as nice as the beggar's chicken.

5. Vegetable
After the 'heavy' dishes, we were served with vegetable. Though nothing special for this, but we do appreciate it. At least we were taking some healthy food after all the fat and oily stuff.

6. Pork Stomach Soup with Pepper
For this soup, just beware of the spicy taste due to the heavy presence of pepper. Get ready with some tea or water, just in case. My younger cousin brother just couldn't finish his portion. For us, it's ok and we quite like it. However, we couldn't drink too much of it. Depends on individual to judge whether this is delicious or not.

7. Steamed Fish
Not sure what fish is being served, but definitely not the highlight for us. Luckily for us, we just equally divided the fish. This to ensure we didn't waste the food.

8. Marmite Prawn
The prawn was fried, covered with sticky sweet sauce. Everyone just enjoy this dish. Luckily the dish is not as heavy as the previous one. Again, we just divide the prawn to everyone and quickly the plate became empty. By then, everyone started getting full.

9. Fried Kam Heong Crab
Last dish of the day. Not everyone like to get their hand dirty especially eating crab, and I was one of them. However, at the end I guess I consumed the most of it. It was delicious, prepared in kam heong and curry leaves make it tastier. By then, most of us couldn't take anymore.

We were not able to order one of their signature dishes, "stuffed fish" or boneless fish. The fish meat is taken out to make as fish paste. We tried out this during our previous visit, but not this time. It's a bit unfortunate that my grandma couldn't follow us for this makan trip, as she needed to attend a wedding dinner. Might planning to come here again to try out the fish paste and other dishes that we didn't order for today.

Wild Flower in Western Australia

There are many wild flowers' photos we have captured. And it is known it will be the blossom season after the winter period, so we consider ourselves lucky to be able to enjoy some of it. Furthermore, the trip coincide with the Wildflower Festival at Kings Park in Perth. We just don't know the name of the flowers, but captivated with the colorful species it has. Most of the photos here were captured by Serene, if not all.

Canola Flower.... sea of yellow

We came across this marvelous scenery while driving from Albany to Hyden. Out of the blue, we saw a patch of yellow color in front of us. Out of curiosity, we stopped by and discover that it was Canola Flower. It's really beautiful, the field looks like paddy field. The only different it is sea of yellow, which is very striking in color.

Why planting Canola? Its seeds are used to produce edible oil suitable for consumption by humans and livestock. The oil is also suitable for use as biodiesel.

After that, we could see lot of canola fields along the way. In fact, we also saw while on our way from Hyden back to Perth City. It's just nice view with the contrast color and the amazing weather, blue sky and sunny day. At least doesn't feel sleepy while driving, enjoying the breathtaking view along the journey.

Beautiful Sunset in Western Australia

Throughout our vacation in Perth, we did cover quite a long journey on our road journey. Most of the time we did spend more time than we should, due to the marvellous places which captured our heart. Just can't to appreciate as well as took as much photos as possible. Hence, we usually need to drive till sunset to reach our destination, especially the accomodation that we have booked.

Nevertheless, some places was so romantic to enjoy the beautiful panorama view of sunset. We even waited till the sun 'eaten' up by the sea, and then only we started to proceed with our journey. Places like Cape Naturaliste has a wonderful spot to view the sunset. It was getting darker earlier as it's winter time.

Others than that, we did stop our car at the roadside as well to enjoy the sunset in the middle of nowhere, just to view the beautiful sunset. How can one resist such a wonder of Mother Nature? Guess if we could enjoy our daily life, without worrying much of the hectic working life, it would be the best compliment with such a great scenery.

Australia always never fail to give us great memory throughout the journey. Would be great to re-visit the Western Australia if given a chance.

7 days trip for our vacation in Perth

Actually, we were in Perth for 9 days in total. However due to the arriving time (11.55pm) and departure time (6.00am), we were not able to do any activities on these both days. Basically, this was our itinerary throughout the vacation (25th Aug - 2nd Sept):

Day 1:
Arrived in Perth airport (11.55pm) and collecting the car and heading towards hotel. By the time we reach hotel, it was 3 in the morning.

Day 2:
Perth City --> Mandurah City --> Back Beach --> Busselton Jetty --> Cape Naturaliste Lighthouse.
In fact, we skip the Ferguson Valley in between as we were tired due to the late arrival the previous day. Also, we didn't visit Dolphin Discovery Centre in Bunburry as well. Overnight at Dunsborough.

Day 3:
Sugarloaf Rock --> Canal Rocks --> The Natural Olive Oil Soap Factory --> Bootleg Brewery --> Laurance Cellar --> Margaret River Chocolate Company --> Providore Margaret River --> Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse --> Cape Leeuwin Waterwheel
We overnight in Pemberton. Nothing much here, but wonderful view of forrest and of course the fresh air. It's always good back to nature once in a while.

Day 4:
Beedelup Falls --> Coalmine Beach --> Tree Top Walk at Valley of Giant --> Peaceful Bay --> Greens Pool & Elephant Rocks
Along the way, there are many nice beaches around. Need to do more research to enjoy the beach view over here. One of it is Mandalay Beach, but we skip it due to the limited time we have. It was fun to drive long the road here, as one will see wonderful beaches. Overnight in Albany.

Day 5:
Middleton Beach --> Albany Wind Farm --> The Gap & Natural Bridge --> Whale World
Today we just moving around Albany area. In fact, we also skip few places such as ANZAC Memorial. But again, we visited the wind farm which actually not in our plan, but well worth to visit it, no regret for us. Not much places we visit today, as we drove long way heading towards Hyden and stay there.

Day 6:
Wave Rock --> Hippos Yawn --> The Humps & Mulka's Cave --> Perth City
Main itineray for today was Wave Rock. Driving all the way from Albany (few hours) just to see the rock. Again, it's amazing to see the rock here and understanding the process. Once done, we were heading back to Perth City. Another long journey to go, and staying in Perth City.

Day 7:
Swan Valley area (famous for winery) --> Sandalford Wines --> Caversham Wildlife Park --> Pinnacles Desert --> Sand Dunes --> Lancelin Jetty
Today's journey depends on one's own preference. We went to Swan Valley area quite early, and most of the vineyard yet to start operate. So we just take photograph on some of it. Wildlife park is worth to visit, where could see white kangaroo there. We heading north of Perth town to experience the 'desert environment'. Overnight at Lancelin. Good place to stay, not noisy at night and out of city life. Most important, by the beach side.

Day 8:
Scarborough Beach --> Kings Park --> Souvenir Shopping --> Fremantle Town --> Perth City
Visited Kings Park, as coincide with their wild flower festival. If one has more time, maybe can plan to visit Rottnest Island. Recommend Fremantle Town to appreciate the history of the town. For me, the town is worth to visit. Overnight in Perth City and packing our luggages.

Day 9:
Heading towards airport catching the 6.00am flight.

Recommended to book the car online before arriving in Perth. Also check on the operating hour of the car rental agency, as when reaching late at night, the service might not be available until the next morning. There was a tourist trying to book the car on the spot, but no car left as it was peak time, due to one of the university having convocation during that time. Always book in advance. Also, we bring along our own GPS device. It is also advisable to book the accommodation in advance. Inform them if arriving late for check-in.

It's a pleasant to drive by ourselves to visit the areas we've been. There is only 1 thing to remember, always follows the speed limit while driving. When travel by car, we could travel to places where would like, whenever we like. No pressure on it.

It was end of winter when we were there. Many nice scenary to be seen. From all the places we've been, it give us different view depending on which area we were during that time. When we travel south, it's cold and the view was more towards coastal road, beaches etc. But when we heading towards north, temperature rises and it's more towards desert environment like Pinnacle and Sand Dune. Also, different season might provide you with different experience in Perth.

We could see wild animals such as kangaroo, parrots etc roaming freely with the large natural national park gazetted by the government. A colorful life indeed.

Perth is a good place for vacation. Before we came here, we never thought so much places for us to visit. Once we were here, we found that we need more time than we think to travel to cover the whole Western Australia. Besides travel by car here, one could also opt for caravan. There are many caravan park available. Another experience that could be explored over here.

Fremantle Town... an interesting historic town to be visited

After the shopping spree on the last day, we decided to come over to Fremantle city. The city is rich of history values, as Fremantle boasts the best preserved example of a 19th century port streetscape in the world with its world-famous heritage buildings and a fascinating maritime and convict history.

Fremantle was the first area settled by the Swan River colonists in 1829. It was declared a city in 1929. The city is named after Captain Charles Howe Fremantle, the English naval officer who had pronounced possession of Western Australia and who established a camp at the site.

Fremantle Market is located in the heart of Fremantle on the Cappuccino Strip - South Terrace. This historic marketplace was first opened in 1897. Known simply as the 'Freo Markets' they were refurbished in 1975 and today are home to over 150 shops.

The market was closed during our visit, what a disappointment for us. It would be good to check on the opening hours for the market where one can easily find from the official website (http://www.fremantlemarkets.com.au/). We could only took photos as part of our memory in this historic town.

This is Wesley Uniting Church, Fremantle. We were walking along the street, and came across this beautiful old church just besides the road. The building architecture really amazed us, and it stood still throughout the years. The church definitely gives hope to many residents over here, especially in its early days.

The original Fremantle railway station was constructed in 1881 next to Cliff Street. Following the extension of the Eastern Railway to Kalgoorlie in 1896, the station was an important hub for gold miners arriving in Western Australia via ship and then travelling to the Yilgarn and Eastern goldfields. In 1907 the station was moved to its present location to better service the newly constructed Fremantle Port. It was designed by William Dartnell, Chief Engineer of Existing Lines of the Railway Department, in 1906. The station was classified by the National Trust in 1974 and entered into the Heritage Council of Western Australia's Register of Heritage Places in 2001.

While entering the toilet in the railway station, I'm again amazed with the maintenance work done. The conservation works done here just marvelous, where it could bring back one memory to old days, with the doors made of wood and have those classic feelings in the old days of Fremantle town.

We just passing by another amazing building, without knowing the history value behinds it. The National Hotel, one of the city's historic buildings, was almost destroyed by fire on the night of Sunday, 11 March 2007. Though the interior was gutted, the historic façade was saved and the building has since been fully restored. Again, we just walk pass as we try to cover as much as possible in this beautiful town before it is getting too dark.

Another building that capturing our heart is Fremantle's Post Office. It was opened in 1907. Again, we just passing by over here, and taking few photos before proceeding to our next building visit around this wonderful town.

Basically, it is a nice experience to visit Fremantle, but too bad the weather wasn't good that time. We only able to cover part of the town, and hopefully could return back one day to enjoy the cafe at the street or even beer, and bring us back to memory lane. Even though at first we hesitated to visit the town, but once we were here, we just fall in love with it. A nice town to visit when one is in Perth.

Since this is the last day for our visit to Perth, we decided to have a relax day, and also bring mom to see flower at Kings Park. We just want to enjoy our last day here in Perth, before departing back to KL early morning the next day.

From here, we could view Perth city. It is a panaromic view, as it is at the top of hill. Furthermore, one could looking the river as well. Actually, the park overlooking Perth and Swan River, which would give one a great picturesque. We did bring along our own hand-made lunch over to the park, enjoying to the fullest.

We were lucky, as today just the beginning of the annual Kings Park Wildflower Festival. The festival run through the whole month, where one could enjoy green plants, some of the best of Western Australian wildflower.

Kings Park and Botanic Garden showcases an outstanding collection of Western Australia flora. It is a popular place for picnics, pleasant walks, cultural and ceremonial events. Nearly two thirds of the Park is natural bushland containing 319 species of native plants and around 80 bird species. The balance of the Park is made up of superbly cultivated gardens and open recreational areas.

It is a good place for us to relax for the last day, allowing us to enjoy the peaceful garden within the city. We do appreciate the local council who really taking care of the cleanness and maintaining it well. No wonder there were many visitors enjoying the green lush in the garden throughout the year, and now we were one of the statistics.

Scarborough Beach

We were heading back to Perth town after spending our night in Lancelin. On the way, we stopped by at Scarborough Beach. While we reach here, there weren't many people around. Maybe due to the winter season and it was cold. Nevertheless, the weather was good on that day.

The beach is facing the Indian Ocean. It is known for the white sand surf beach in the world. Many activities can be done over here, eg swimming, surfing, fishing, wind surfing, kite surfing to name a few.

While we were there, we saw few people doing surfing, with their own technique. Looking at them, it remind me that it has been long time I didn't practice my surfing, especially in Bali. Maybe need to schedule a trip to Bali then... Hehe...

It is a well maintained beach, and at the same time we could see the local authority provided the guests with amenity such as electric stool for BBQ. Hopefully this could be implemented back in our home country, what an envy!!!

This would be a nice place for a vacation, and there are many accomodations available along the beach.

This is THE BEST hostel we stayed thus far for our trip. Why not!!! Upon checking on the information for this hostel we found out that Lancelin Lodge voted the best YHA hostel in Western Australia in 2001 and 2009 - runner up 2010 and third in whole of Australia in 2004. Rated as 4 stars for budget accomodation. The lodge is a purpose built home away from home for sports orientated guests who stay for extended periods.

The hostel is very clean, and we really enjoy the stay here as truly we felt at home. After the dinner, we rest for a while and enjoying a game of table-tennis with chill weather outside, and enjoying a bottle of Pink Moscato wine.

The hostel has a big and clean kitchen. The utensil is complete and always the hostel guest here very corporative with each other, clean their own stuff after using it. We cooked our spaghetti here and manage to finish it, though at first we thought it was too big the portion. Guests have plenty of storage in the kitchen for dry and refrigerated foods.

The dining area and a living room adjoin to each other. There are TV, books and games to enjoy during winter indoor here, with a fire place available to keep warm. A great place to mingle around with other guest.

At first we were thinking whether should we stay in Perth city or here, but after staying here we found out that it's worth to stay here. It is a nice place, with great sunset view and out of city environment. Real good place for a rest. Would recommend my friend to stay here if coming to Perth for vacation.

Lancelin Jetty

We finally found out the location of our stay tonight, Lancelin Lodge. However, as it was nearing the sunset time (early sunset) due to the winter period, we decided to came over to the seaside. We found a jetty nearby to the hostel that we are staying.

Once we parked our car, we were walking towards the jetty. There were houses built facing to the sea, which the tenants able to enjoying the beautiful sunset everyday. If to migrate and enjoying retirement, I guess this would be a place to consider, at least for myself.

There were a groupd of people fishing at the jetty. Water was very clear, and a bit windy that time. There also a group of visitors, mostly ladies and I guess they are from China from the way they speaking, learning on how to fishing from the anglers. The anglers very friendly as we spoke to them. As it is getting darker, they mentioned they would call it a day off soon. We also found there is a electricity provided for anglers, in order for them to make hot water for coffee, tea etc while enjoying their fishing activities.

As the getting darker, the sun getting lower and it looks like an egg yolk. We really enjoying the sunset, and it was romantic with the wind breezing thru our face slowly. Sea was not that rough, where one could hear the soothing wave hitting the shores.

Would recommmend to come over this place to enjoy the great sunset if one having holiday in Lancelin town. Just love the sunset and fishing activities. However, I didn't do fishing as didn't bring my equipment our here, as this is vacation period.

Sand Dunes @ Lancelin

This is the last places in our plan for today. After the Pinnacles Desert, we headed to Sany Dunes, following the direction using the Garmin device. Basically, we only following our instinct as the the new highway does not exist in the map in our GPS device. Only able to follow the route once we almost reached Lancelin town.

When we reached the attraction point, there were 2 buses ferrying the tourist to visit this place. We were just enjoying the view of this great sands. We just don't understand how the sand is being formed from nowhere. We don't have much time over here, as it was quite late.

Those tourist came with the bus, they were provided with the sandboard. They enjoying the sandboarding. Besides that, we only wearing casual clothes and not ready to enjoy the sandboarding. The sand easily would slip through our clothes and it would be difficult for us to change clothes.

We felt the sand, and it was very soft sand. Indeed, over here we took some picture while sleep on the sand, doing some 'kung fu' style kick and even try to jump on the sand. It was so beautiful over here, white color sand with clear blue sky as background.

We also lucky to take some photos which seems like sunset. As the weather changed fast, we just couldn't miss the golden opportunity to snap some photos.

We walked for a while on the sand dunes, before departing from here to our hostel for the night. We also saw some modified vehicles ferrying the tourist to enjoy the 'bumpy rides' on the sand dunes. We left here to look search for our accomodation tonight, the place that we have booked.

Pinnacles Desert @ Nambung National Park

While visiting Western Australia, we could visited places with different climate. From cold weather at the south, we have been travelling to the north till the desert. Along the way, there were signboard this places be flooded with wild flowers during winter season, which it is just beginning of the season. We were told as well that the scenary change when the season change, so it won't be the same whenever one visit the same place during other season. How nice it is, and that's the reason why I like country having 4 seasons.

Though it was quite a long journey for us, but we still like it as when we driving, we could see lot of beautiful scenary along the way. When we reach the Pinnacles Desert, we need to buy an entrance ticket per car. There are 2 paths, one where we can follow the trail on foot, and another we can drive the car along the path provided to the desert.

Though we drove our car through the desert, we could still able to park the car at designated area, as long as it didn't blocking other car from keep moving. We did park our car, and took some nice photos there, as shown on the photo above. There was a group of chinese speaking tourist, and they took picture with our rented car. We heard that one of them said "I wanna take picture with this Ferrari!!!". We burst into laughing when get into the car.

The impressive landscapes and peculiar stone formations of the Pinnacles Desert were originated several millions years ago. The material of these stone mounds came from sea shells that were broken-down into lime-rich sand. Later, this sand was blown inland by natural elements, like the wind, creating sand dunes. Step by step, rainfalls caused the lime to seep to the bottom of the dunes, generating the formation of limestone.

The limestone formations of the Pinnacles vary in size and shape; some are as small as a mouse whilst many are as big as 3.5m high. These unusually shaped rocks have been likened to tombstones, termite mounds and even fingers. The Pinnacles Desert is best seen at dawn or dusk when they cast long, strange shadows over the rippling yellow sand dunes.

From the Pinnacles, we also able to see the great ocean. And along the journey, we were driving along the coastal road. On our way later on to Sand Dunes, we were using the new highway (we guess so). The raod doesn't exist in the map of our Garmin's GPS device, but we just follow the road all along until we reach to the town, Lancelin. It was really beautiful journey for us.

Caversham Wildlife Park

This is the second wildlife park (zoo) that I've been in Australia. The first one was Melbourne. Serene has been few before. However, we found that this is the best so far. This is really a great place to visit, especially there are so many Australia's unique native animals to be seen here.

Here, not only we saw kangaroo, but also we have a close-up encounter with white kangaroo. This is the first time we seen white kangaroo. Besides that, it also has a pouch with a baby inside. Wow, what an experience. Visitors can personally hand-feed kangaroos. Within a minute, there will be lot of kangaroos by your side.

Not all kangaroos has pouch anyway. But anyway, we found this kangaroo quite funny, the way it sitting and scratching its tail.

Another Australia's icon, KOALA. It was lucky day for us. When we visited the area, the koalas were active. The zoo keeper was friendly, and told us lot of information about the koalas. Normally koala sleeps during daytime, but that day it was active and we were lucky. The eucalyptus leaves was put besides the koalas so that it would be easier for the koalas to have a bite. It is really cute and we could feels the fur with the instruction from the zoo keeper.

There were many shows available. One of it is Meet the Wombat & Friends shows. The zoo keeper will bring out their favourite friends to see, touch and learn about. Wombat is the star of the show where one can feel and take a photo with it. Of course this is under the guidance of the keeper. Besides that, there were beautiful parrots to show. We saw lot of these parrots during our journey in Wave Rock, flying freely in the sky.

One thing that really attract me is the education system over here. Small kids are exposed to the natural environment, animals particularly. Since there are lot of animals, and only found in this part of the world, the small kid are exposed on how to take care of themselves and also the animal when bump into each other. During the show, I also learned some information for the first time, but the small kid also knew it before that. Amazing ehh!!!

Another animal that attracted our attention is Kori Bustard. From the other website, found out it is a large bird native to Africa. Male kori bustards are contenders for the world’s heaviest flying birds. During the breeding season, the male performs a "ballon" display by inflating his esophagus by as much as four times its normal size. We were not sure whether what we saw in the park means it was breeding season. It also produce funny sound, which really turn our attention to.

The park now features about 200 species, and more than 2000 head of animals, birds and reptiles; most housed in a walk-through environment. It's a great place to bring along the kids to see all kind of animals over here, especially unique Australia wildlife. It's really a great place to visit while one in Perth.

Sandalford Wines

Our first visit today, in conjunction with Malaysia's National Day. After we had our breakfast from North Lodge, we try to find a place to go while waiting for Caversham Wildlife Park to open. We went to the tourist information center, and was informed to try out the winery in Swan Valley area. Sandalford Winery was highly recommended by the officer.

When we reached the winery, it was still not yet start operating for the day. However, we still manage to have a walk around the area as the staff were day to prepare for the day. It was still early for the day for any staff to entertain us then.

We passed by the Oak Room, which was undergoing some cleaning and renovation most likely to cater for a function. The function room was full of oak barrels, Hessian draped ceiling and wrought iron chandelier. It was a marvelous place to have function, especially wedding dinner in my opinion.

Not far from Oak Room, we found a outdoor place where there was few tables and barrels. The area was planted with grape tree as well. Too bad, it was end of winter and hence we could only see the branches. However, we do enjoying the environment here, and taking some photo here of course. Due the day still early, nothing can be bought here during that time.

Next, we came to the garden and again there was some tree planted there. The grapes was planted in year 1890, basically more than a century ago. It would be very nice if it grew fruits, especially during autumn I guess. Though I've been to Australia few times, but it always coincide with winter and hence couldn't experience to see the grape.

Sandalford is one of the Western Australia's oldest and largest privately owned wineries. Hence would like to made known the history value of the winery which I've quoted from their website:

John Septimus Roe become Western Australia's first Surveyor General after an illustrious career in the British Navy. An accomplished explorer and Mathematician he worked in the New South Wales colony from 1817 to 1827 before accepting the West Australian role in 1829.

After 11 years of service which included the overseeing the development of colonies at Fremantle and Perth, he was in 1840 rewarded for his efforts by the reigning Queen Victoria with the bequethment of 2,000 acres of land along the Swan River in Caversham.

He named the Swan Valley property Sandalford, and soon after planted the first vines there. The property flourished and wines produced from the vines grown there satisfied the requirements of the local community for the decades following.

The Winemaker at Sandalford Wines from the mid 60's to the late 70's was Dorham Mann - son of famed Wine-making Pioneer Jack Mann. Under Dorham's advice the Roe family expanded into the Margaret River region in the South West of Western Australia.

This area had earlier been assayed by Dr John Gladstone which he assessed as being an ideal climate and terrior for the growing of Premium wine grapes, likening the terroir and general conditions to famed region of Bordeaux in France. Based on this the Roe family purchased a 280 hectare property which was planted with vines in 1970.

This Wilyabrup sub region of Margaret River has gone on to be one of the most famed wine producing areas in all of Australia, and indeed is recognised on the World stage for amazing Cabernet's Chardonnay's and now Shiraz.

1840 and 1970 are therefore very important dates in the history of Sandalford Wines, and whilst we look to the future with great optimism having plans to grow and expand our wine, tourism, F&B, and Event offerings, we will never lose sight of our heritage and the fact Sandalford Wines was indeed a pioneer of both the Swan Valley and Margaret River.

We felt this is a great place to visit, though it's a bit regret that it was still not open yet during our visit. Hopefully can come back here during our next visit back to Perth.

North Lodge

This is the accomodation we put up for today. It was a nice place, not far from the city center. When we check-in, it was a nice old lady there helping us going through the process. Guess that the old lady is the owner of the hostel. Once done, another nice lady who brought us to our room. It was a nice introductory experience by both of this ladies.

The hostel is situated near to the city center, close to all major public transport facilities. It was also equipped with a kitchen. We did prepare our dinner here, but found out the utensil quite old and not enough. However, we did make full use of what is available here. Again, we had our early rest as tired of travelling today.

While checking in, we also book again for a night on 1st Sept. That would be our last night for our travelling.

The Humps & Mulka's Cave

This is our last stop for the day, as we plan to heading back to Perth city after the visit. From the brochure, Mulka's Cave is another tourist spot at Hyden area. Most of the time, Wave Rock is the main attraction at Hyden.

At Mulka's Cave, one could spot some hand stencils. It is claimed to be few thousands year old.

Mulka's Cave has its own myth / legend:

The name Mulka comes from an Aboriginal legend associated with the cave. Mulka was the illegal son of woman who fell in love with a man with whom marriage was forbidden according to their law.

It is believed that a result of breaking these rules, she bore a son with crossed eyes. Even though he grew to be an outstandingly strong man of colossal height, his crossed eyes prevented him from aiming a spear accurately and becoming a successful hunter.

Out of frustration it is said Mulka turned to catching and eating human children and he became the terror of the district. He lived in Mulka's Cave, where the imprints of his hands can still be seen, much large and higher than that of an ordinary man.

Apparently, his mother became increasingly concerned about him. When she scolded him for his anti-social behaviour he turned on his own mother and killed her. This disgraced him even further and he fled his cave, heading south.

The Aboriginal people of the area, outraged by Mulka's behaviour, then tracked down this man who had flouted all the rules. They caught him near Dumbleyung, 156km south west of Hyden, where they speared him to death. Because he did not deserve a proper ritual burial, they left his body to the ants: a grim warning to those who break the law.

After visiting the cave, we heading back to Wave Rock. We had prepared ourselves ham burgers, and we saw this morning that Wave Rock has a good place for us to relax and having our lunch there. The plan is to going back to Perth once we had our lunch.

Hippos Yawn @ Hyden

The next stop is Hippos Yawn in our schedule today. Though it is not far from Wave Rock, we still decided to drive over here. We just parked the car right in front of the site as there was no other car there, and again we were the first to reach here today.

The rock's resemblance to a yawning hippopotamus led to its name. It is about 12.6 meters tall. One can walk right into the Hippo's mouth and crawl out the passage resembling a throat.

We did take our time over here, snapping photos with few funny posture (no one was here). Then we make our move for the next visit, as today will be another long journey drive for us again.

Wave Rock @ Hyden

This is the first place we visited today, early in the morning just to avoid the crowd. Furthermore, this tourist spot just nearby the motel we stayed. By the time we reached here, there was no other car at the parking area except our red car. We were so excited to be the first one to reach here, plus together with the sunny weather over here which mean we could take our time for photography.

At the juncture where we heading towards to Wave Rock, we came across the signboard welcoming us over here. It's quite easy to find our place till here, with the guidance of gps device. Along the way over here, we saw colorful parrots flying freely in the air.

Rising 15 metres from the ground and more than 100 metres long, Wave Rock looks like a giant surf wave of multicoloured granite about to crash onto the bush below. It is believed this amazing formation was more than 2,700 million years in the making. The shape of the wave is formed by gradual erosion of the softer rock beneath the upper edge, over many centuries.

The colours of the Wave are caused by the rain washing chemical deposits (carbonates and iron hydroxide) down the face, forming vertical stripes of greys reds and yellows. If one can stay a little longer, it is also worth seeing the Rock at different times of the day, as the changing sunlight alters its colours and appearance.

After a while, we walked up above the rock, through the staircase provided. From the top, we could view the area around Hyden. With the nice weather, the view was breathtaking. Furthermore, there was sunray through the clouds directing at the town area.

Besides, near the Wave Rock is the Wave Rock Dam, an impressive dam which was initially constructed in 1928. This dam was expanded in 1951, to service the Hyden Township and its capacity is 30 megalitres (30 000 cubic meters).

The dam has low walls, which have been constructed on Wave Rock to channel the rainwater into the dam. So far this dam system has shown to be very efficient; bearing in mind the small catchment area of only 30 hectares and the low annual rainfall rate, which is only 337 mm.

One can actually see the catchment area while climbing up the staircase. The water was well preserved to serve the residents over here. In 2000, following Substantial contributions by the State Government, Shire of Kondinin and local farmers, Hyden was connected to the Water Corporation's comprehensive water scheme. The Wave Rock dam water continues to suppliment this source and is greatly valued in times of water restrictions.

During springtime, there are abudance of exotic and rare wildflowers around the area. So plan well for the journey over here. Personally, we felt it will be good to visit the place as every season has their own uniqueness.

Wave Rock Motel

We finally reached the hotel after a long drive. By the time we found the hotel, the day start getting dark. Once we checked-in, we just resting in our room. In fact, we prepared our own dinner in the room. The room is quite spacious, 2 beds to fit all of us.

Wave Rock Motel rated as 3 stars motel. There are 3 restaurants over here, The Bush Bistro, The Gimlet and The Sandalwood. Besides that, the motel also has Hotel Bar, decorated classic English style like cowboy. In fact, many guests will enjoying their day over here after such a long journey. I would love to join them, but I just too tired and prefer to stay on my bed to have a rest.

The motel staff is very friendly indeed. They always provides the best services they could. The room is very cosy. The heater worked very well, though it's look a bit old. We did feel the warm over here. After having our dinner, we straight away call it off the day. Re-charging our battery for the next day journey.

The next morning, we wake up very early. Since chosen this motel for a night because of its proximity to the Wave Rock, which we intend to visit. Motel is located within the town, nearby to a petrol station and there are 2 row of shops.

Whale World

This is our last places visit for today before we heading to Hyden for our next day tour. Since it was quite far, we decided to come over here early, hence we could start our journey soon as well. We didn't actually visited the place here, as we feels it's a bit expensive. It was more than AUD50 for 3 of us, so we decided to give it a skip.

Another reason we didn't to give a skip because we were told there wasn't any whale spotted. There was whale spotted 2 days ago. While we walking outside, we could see beautiful ocean out there. A crystal clear water ocean with white sandy beach.

Whale World is an internationally unique attraction, taking visitors on a journey through the site of Australia’s last operating whaling station. Visitors have the freedom to explore an actual whaling ship, stand on the actual flensing deck and watch as actual cookers spin into action.

A Brief History!
The Cheynes Beach Whaling Company (1963) Pty. Ltd. commenced its Frenchman Bay operation in 1952. A dramatic drop in the world price of whale oil, the need for substantial capital investment and the uncertainty of an extended Government licence, rather than environmental group pressures, combined to bring about the decision to close the company's Frenchman Bay Whaling Station after 26 years. The last whale was caught on 21 November 1978.

Encouraged by the high number of visitors to the operating station, John and his wife Jill established a small museum and souvenir centre on site in 1974 - an initiative which laid the foundation of today's Whale World Museum.

The Museum's Mission Statement is:
"To preserve and interpret Australia's last Whaling Station as an historic and cultural asset for the education and enjoyment of this and future generations"

The Gap & Natural Bridge

We continue our journey this morning from Albany Wind Farm. At the entrace, there is a sign board welcoming its visitors. Turn left to view the spectacular GAP, and turn right to see the amazing NATURAL BRIDGE.

Following the path will lead one to safety-rails to view these great rock formation. Do ensure take care of small kid especially, as it is high cliff and could be dangerous especially raining day. As I'm having phobia of high places, I did really take extra careful when capturing photos over here. But nonetheless, this is really a beautiful place to visit and to enjoy.

The Natural Bridge is a huge piece of granite which huge seas have eroded over the centuries to produce this fantastic arch. One could also see the wave rushing in and hitting the rocks, making the wave splashed. As the wind keep blowing, we did feels the cold over here, but enjoying it under the clear sky. The weather has be on our side thus far.

The GAP is about 24-metre drop to the sea. From here, one can see the waves rush in and out with tremendous ferocity, and watch the waves surge along the sheer cliff drop. If one spending more time over here, one could sometime see the wave hitting the cliff and splash highly.

From here, one can keep an eye out for whales which are often seen from the cliffs, especially during winter. Since it was end of winter, we still do hope that we could spot whale over here. We were still happy even though we didn't see any today. Just remember to bring binocular while visiting Albany in future as there are lot of surprises to view from afar.

While we were enjoying the view over here, we could feels the power of Mother Nature. The rock formation, the ferocity waves hitting the rock, the strong winds keep blowing to our face really make our day.

Albany Wind Farm

We were driving along the Frenchman Bay Road to The Gap & Natural Bridge, we came by a road sign stated "Wind Farm". After a short discussion, we decided to give a try, and this has turned to be a blessing for us. It was such a spectacular view, and our first experience seeing the Wind Farm.

Albany wind farm is approximately 12km south-west of the city centre. It is in an elevated position approximately 80m above the Southern Ocean. The farm has 12 wind turbine generators situated on site.

The turbines are the model ENERCON E-66, each with three 35 metres (115 ft) long blades made from fibreglass and kevlar (making them very flexible in order to withstand any conditions) and are fitted to 65 metres (213 ft) towers. The nose cone which the blades attach to weighs around 14 tonnes. These turbines are the largest that have been installed in the southern hemisphere.

The turbines operate automatically, with the three blades adjusted to make best use of power output from any wind direction or strength. They have been designed to withstand the strongest winds likely in Albany and incorporate special lightning protection. Each turbine has a rating of 1.8 MW and is able to produce electrical energy at wind speeds of 7–130 kilometres per hour (4–70 kn) at which the turbines are shut down. Maximum output is achieved at a wind speed of 50 kilometres per hour (27 kn).

The power output is supplying over half of Albany's home. As Albany is connected to Western Australian's main South West Interconnected System grid, when the wind isn't blowing the city is provided with power via transmission lines from Western Power's large coal and gas fired power stations further north.

I walked to one of the turbines, and standing right beneath it. I could listen to the blade tips whistle around at about 250km's per hour (full speed). From afar, we could see the blades swing slowly, but while standing right beneath it, then my view has changed dramatically.

From the top view for tourist, we also could see the vast Southern Ocean. As it was sunny day, we really enjoying the awesome view. Besides that, there is a trail connecting to the Bibbulmum track. We just spent our time viewing the wind farm, and its surrounding. In fact, more and more people coming to visit this great place.

Middleton Beach

Since we staying in Albany, we thought of coming to this beach after done some research on this area the night before. After taking our breakfast, we headed to here. We tried to look from our map in gps device, to our surprise the map doesn't shows the result for Middleton Beach. Hence we search for the caravan park, and next to the park it was a huge car parking. We got off from our car, and heading towards the beach.

There is a woorden track leading us to the beach. Since it was early in the morning, the sun is quite hot. The sand is so soft, and easily enter to our shoes. Wave is bit strong, thus it was a perfect place for surfers. We just enjoying the morning breezes over here looking after the vast ocean in front of us. Magnificent view indeed.

The way leading us to the beach was full of grass. This making the scenary more beautiful. But we find this place is quite peaceful because it was a bit secluded. Houses was built facing the beach, and directly facing east. Thus the owner will enjoy morning sunrise.

We saw an elderly man came here for a morning walk together with 2 dogs. We played with his dogs for a while, and it seems the dog very active and running here and there. How I wish that I can enjoy the life of this elderly man, everyday of my life. Forgetting those hectic life back in KL.

This is our accomodation for the night. We booked a twin room apartment. When we reached here, it was almost end of operation hour. We bought KFC as dinner, and we intend to have our dinner in our apartment. Besides that, we also bought some foods as our breakfast for the next morning.

Metro Inn Albany located just a short drive from the city centre of Albany, and it is just besides the main road and easily spotted. We have seen it during afternoon, however we preferred to visit our planned itinerary first.

We like this place. It has a kitchen area in apartment. Besides that, the bathroom is big as well. At night, it is a quiet place for rest. After travelling for so long and visiting so many places, this would be a great place for rest.

Highly recommend for this place. It's offering one of the reasonable price in the area, and near to city center. Supermarket just a short distance away from here.

Greens Pool & Elephant Rocks

After Peaceful Bay, we heading over here, Greens Pool. We drove about 45 minutes to reach over here. Greens Pool is rated one of Western Australia's most idyllic beaches which offering superb swimming, snorkelling, diving and even fishing. Greens Pool also famous for its turquoise green waters, and pristine white sands which are edged by granite boulders.

Weather changed fast and totally different from Peaceful Bay. It was dark sky, and seems raining going to fall. From the car park, we going down through staircase to the beach. Though it was without sun light and dark sky, we could see the water was clear and it could better if sunny day.

we saw few people fishing. We were wearing jacket as the wind was blowing quite strong, but those anglers only wearing shorts. Haha, just can't compare with them. While we going down staircase from the car park, there was a noticeboard. It stated visitors should respect other users over here, such as reconsider where to fish while people swimming at the beach.

Those dark sky really make me think the powerful Mother's Nature, weather changed just as it is. It make me think of the movie I watched during my kid's day, when the sky suddenly turn dark. What I worry that time was raining. It could turn havoc as I need to run to the car to get umbrella, which was quite far away.

When one walk few hundred metres from Greens Pool, one will come to Elephant Rocks. These granite domes resemble elephants set off the shallow waters. From afar, we could see the rock really resemble the elephant shape. We decided to sit on top of the granite and taking some photos over here. Good place for photography.

Some visitors walked down through the staircase between the rocks to Elephant Cove, just to the east. Underneath, one could also enjoy a stunning view. However, we didn't go down as we didn't wear proper clothes for beach area.

Over here, we met with a friendly Australian person, who has taught us few thinks of the wild flower available over this area. This make the visit more memorable.

Peaceful Bay

This is one of the highly recommended place to visit. We truly enjoy our stop over here, as the name says it all, PEACEFUL. That day it was sunny day with blue sky, and we truly enjoying our view at this bay.

Peaceful Bay is a hamlet in the Shire of Denmark, a picturesque holiday spot on the Southern Ocean coast west of Denmark town centre. The bay is ideal for swimming, fishing, snorkelling, boating and diving. Peaceful Bay also offers bushwalking areas, providing visitors with an abundance of wildflowers and birds.

It's lucky for us to have such a great day, as the past few days we raining or cloudy. Since it was sunny, we could enjoy the crystal clear and calm water. If I could stay longer here, I would definitely enjoying my stay and fishing all day long.

We been trying to capture more picture, and I tried to stich few photos to have panorama view for this beautiful bay, probably the best that we have during our visit here.

Valley of the Giants ... Tree Top Walk

This is another MUST visit in our itinerary to Perth. Valley of the Giants is Western Australia's world famous forest of gigantic tingle trees, with some over 400 years old. These are the giants that gave the forest its name, and only be found in the forest surrounding the Valley of Giants.

There is a lighweight suspension bridge with about 600m long, where it's ascend gently into the tree tops 40m above the forest floor. From here, one can enjoy the spectacular gigantic tingle trees view. The walkway has gained international attention for its innovative design and exciting experience its offer.

It is advisable to wear walking shoes, taking about 45 minutes to complete the journey on the suspension bridge. I'm taking longer time, as I'm afraid of height. One able to see to the forest floor from a top, making my leg taking longer time to take each steps.

When descend from the bridge below, one would explore the "Ancient Empire", which is a groove of impressive veteran tingle trees. There are few trees over here which is big in size and tall. The view at the forest floor and on top of the bridge really give a different view. We just awe with the Mother's Nature surrounding here, the landscaping and unique trees over here.

The boardwalk meanders around and sometimes through the old trees. We were wondering how the boardwalk is built through the tree, and some of the trees has something like burnt mark? Is this natural? The boardwalk is designed to protect the tingle trees from the damaging impact of large numbers of visitors. It is thought that before this measure was taken, some trees were in rapid decline as a result of compaction of the soil around their root systems caused by vehicles and humans.

We felt this is worth our effort to come all the way to enjoy the scenary. Looking down the giant trees from bird's eye view really give us an unforgetable memory for our holiday, and the maintenance of the area is superb. It is indeed a great place to enjoy together with family members.

Coalmine Beach

We stopped on our way to Giant of Valley, which is about 15 minutes away. Coalmine Beach is located within Walpole-Nornalup National Park. It is ideal for sighseeing, bush-walking, swimming and fishing.

As it was still cold, we see no one having water activities by the time we were there. We quite like the area here, as we found it is relaxing over here. If we were to have more time, definitely we want to spend more time over here. If we spend more time over here, we might able to find out more about this historical place.

Beedelup Falls

The first visit for us today. When we reached the area, it was the first car to park there... Hahaha.... Anyway, it's a bit slippery as it was light rain the night before. Before entering the park, we read some of the information available. Just take own sweet time we were the first to reach here today.

There is a suspension bridge crossing over the falls, providing superb view of it. Checking from the website, the most beautiful view is during the late winter which it was about the time we were there.

The falls is located in Beedelup National Park. During the springtime, one will able to witness some of the most prolific wildflowers in the area. There's a loop walk that is mostly wheelchair-accesible. The walk was quite an easy and enjoyable trip. We were only making the journey to view the falls and went through the suspension trip, before we heading towards our next destination.

This is the place where we stayed for the night. From Leeuwin Lighthouse, we drove all the way towards this area. When we reached here, it was already dark (as it was end of winter during that time). Along the journey, we met with wild kangaroos at the roadside. So it need to be extra careful while driving in the dark.

We like this place for overnight. We booked the family room which has double bed and a separate room. Though the water heater not working that time, but the friendly staff help us to overcome it...

We prepared the dinner, where we have bought some groceries before coming over here. We took turn to shower, and by the time we did that, the dinner is ready. We also drank a bottle of wine, enjoying ourselves after visiting so many places for the day.

We slept quite early as we need to wake up early in the morning to continue our journey. It is very good hotel as we like a quiet place. Furthermore, the motel is surrounded by karri forests, thus the morning view is amazing over here.

Cape Leeuwin Waterwheel

After our visit to Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse, we stopped by at this historic waterwheel. It is just located next to the lighthouse. The waterwheel is surrounded by ocean, rocks and Leeuwin-Naturaliste National Park.

The water-wheel sytem was built in 1895 to supply water for the stone masons of the lighthouse (builders were Wishart & Davies) and water to the lighthouse-keepers' cottages. The water is supplied by a natural fall from a spring that exists in marshland approximately 330 metres away, which in turn created a flow over the wheel which revolved and activated a ram pump to deliver water by pipe to the lighthouse area.

The water wheel has now calcified from the lime in the water, and although the wheel no longer turns water still trickles over the structure, as fresh as the day the water wheel was first erected.

Restoration work was carried out on the waterwheel from October 2001 to December 2001 by Doug Miller, who is a member of the Augusta Historical Society.

Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse

This is one of the those MUST visit in our itinerary. There are lot of historical value to pay a visit for this attraction, and also the location of it. This place really picturesque. We reached here quite late, about an hour before the visits time is over. Cloudy and blue sky keep changing just like a big curtain. Even drizzling at times. We quickly paid the entrance fees and entered to lighthouse's area.

Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse is situated at the most south-westerly point on the mainland of the Australian Continent, standing at the point where the Indian Ocean and Southern Ocean meet. This is the main reason we came here to view both giant ocean meet. For us, it is quite rare to stand on mainland to see both ocean.

The force of these oceans did bring disaster to some ship. While we were there, we did see some plaque over there dedicated to those ship, such as HMAS Nizam with ten sailors aboard lost their lives off Cape Leeuwin in 1945.

The lighthouse is important meteorological site from which data is collected, the tower stands 39 metres high from ground level and 56 metres above sea level. Its piercing beam, which has an intensity of one million candles, shines over the surrounding rugged sea and landscape for 26 nautical miles or 48 kilometres.

Built from 1895 to 1896 the tower and cottages are built of local limestone. The Cape Leeuwin Light was first mooted in 1881, but took 15 years to eventuate. Disputes raged over the best site for the lighthouse. Also, until the Kalgoorlie-Coolgardie gold rushes Western Australia was the poorest State, and with no assistance from the Eastern States, it was unable to proceed with a project of this size. Further delays occurred when it was found the the initial test bores that showed bedrock at 2.5 metres had only found a rock shelf and it was then necessary to excavate to 6.7 metres. The original 1895 plan included two lights. The present high white light tower and in front of it, a low red light tower. Although the foundations for this low tower were completed, the structure was never built because it was considered that a second light would cause confusion and draw ships closer to the Cape.

The lighthouse was manually operated until 1982 by kerosene burner mechanism. Manually operated!!! The poor person who used to operate it had to carry two 30kg cans of kerosene to the very top every 4 hours. One of the last lighthouses in the world to still operate on such a rudimentary system, it was finally converted to electricity in 1982 and automated in 1992.

We accidentally came to this winery because we made the wrong turn from Margaret River Chocolate Company which just nearby the area. Just after we parked our car and entered, it started raining heavily. So lucky we were...

Providore is voted one of Australia's Top 100 Gourmet Experiences by Australian Traveller Magazine. We tried the Coward & Black label. It's really a good wine and we like it a lot. Coward & Black is already receiving rave reviews for its first vintage, producing two stunning Margaret River favourites – a light, fruity Semillon Sauvignon Blanc and a complex, full-bodied Cabernet Sauvignon.

Besides the wine available over here, Providore also plant their own organic vegetable gardens. It is just besides the winery. By that time, the rain has stopped. We tour the garden for a while. One could see the vegetables and some flowers there. The weather still cold as it was end of winter. Maybe that's the reason not many vegetable available to be seen.

Besides winery, one can taste the food. Here is the quote from their website "Our award winning wines and olive oils, together with sauces, jams, dressings and unique ingredients from around the world are presented daily for you to taste with our compliments and our restaurant is open for lunch and coffee every day.".

Chocolate lover?? My wife like to eat and taste chocolate but I'm not really chocolate person. Just eat it occasionally. However, a visit over here is a must. This is an alternative to the wineries. It is one of the most popular tourist attractions, with manufacturing, sales and cafe facilities in both Margaret River and the Swan Valley.

Once we entered the premise, we were treated with free chocolate tasting and interactive displays. There was a person who jumped queue in front of me, as well as in front of his small childen. What a role model to those small kids?? Sigh.... Apart from this incident, overall I do like the chocolate over here.

Behind the counter, one could see there were rows' of chocolate. When visiting the area, camera is a must as we feels that it is very nice place to take picture.

At the other end of the building, there is a window to watch the chocolate products being made. Though we don't have the chance to enter the factory area and time is limited for us, we just spend fairly short time over here.

There are plenty of sizes of chocolate to choose from, as a gift to friends or family members. So why not choose some over here with those nice packaging.... !!!

Besides that, it has cafe inside it where one can enjoying the relaxing mood in here. It is worthwhile visiting here.

We came here to have our lunch. It was a grand entrance from the main road. We were passing big garden, with a lake there. In the middle of the of the lake, there is a 14-metre pole with "free as a bird" statue.

Laurance Cellar, with its rustic charm and European sophistication, offers visitors a tasting with a difference in magnificent surroundings. The building has been constructed of prefabricated concrete and its unique finish gives the perception of age. Ironbark timbers sourced from the old Wooloomooloo Wharf in Sydney feature throughout the building.

We were ordering the food, guess this was the best lunch we had. In order to enjoy the environment here, we decided to eat at the pathway, outside from the premise. From there, we were able to enjoying the magnificent surroundings. The waiter was kind enough, to offer to lit up the heater for us as it was a bit cold sitting outside.

Besides that, one can also tasting the wine with minimal cost. Since it is end of winter, I was thinking if it could be autumn and enjoying greenery of the garden with full of grapes.

We were surprised to be told there is brewery place in Margaret River area. Thus we were making a point to visit the center in our itinerary. It is very easy to find this place, together with the map provided from our hostel yesterday. We were planning to come here to try out the beer, just before our lunch.

It is situated in the heart of Margaret River wine region, hence billed itself as "an oasis of beer in a desert of wine". Bootleg Brewery produces a wide range of multi-award winning naturally brewed boutique beers. Since being established in 1994 Bootleg has become one of the most popular tourist destinations in the South West, well known for its great beers, delicious lunches, picturesque setting and childrens playground.

We purchased the tester set of 7, which we able to taste all the beers available. Since there are 3 of us, we shared it among ourselves. We were given a tasting note of the beer, where each cup represent different taste. It started from a mild beer to stout. The cup is numbered from 1 to 7, and we just test the beer accordingly and reading the notes given.

We came here by chance, as this wasn't recommended by our friend before the visit to Perth. Upon seeing the maps provided by the hostel yesterday night, we decided to came here to have a look. Well, indeed it is surprise for us. I mean it is a good place to visit. All products available is made of olive.

The staff was very helpful and keep encouraging us to try the products. There are many products available here ie soap, lotion, hairwash etc. The staff very knowledgeable to provide the information, and also understand the needs of their customer. Friendly staff indeed.

Besides the products, they also have a food section. One can also try all the foods made of olive. You really can take your time to taste the food here. My wife like the foods here but I'm not used to it. Well, everyone has their own taste, isn't it?

Since it is the factory as well, one may see their staff cutting and hand packaging the soap, right through to the finished product.

Upon checking on the official website of this factory, found out the owner (Louis & Edwina Scherini) started making soap in 1993. They have 3 children whom suffered from eczema and dermatitis, were advised by doctor not to use soap nor shampoo. The Scherini's were inspired to create a chemical free alternative incorporating extra virgin olive oil and essential oils, excellent for those with allergies and sensitive skin.

Canal Rocks

When we reached here, it was pretty windy. We were extra careful so that nothing drop to the sea from the bridge we walked along. This beautiful area is part of Leeuwin-Naturaliste National Park. The canal was form by the granite rocks, jut into the ocean. There is a bridge built for visitor to get the safest and best views of the area. One need to be careful during raining day as it would be slippery.

We walked along the bridge, heading towards the canal. We could see wave hitting the rock, forming a big waves. Actually the water was very clear. Upon reading some information about this area, we found out this area is popular for fishing with salmon catches a big attraction around Easter time. Hence, it would be lovely if we could make the visit to Australia next time for my fishing trip.

The sky start turning into black, and prompting us to make our way for our next destination of the day. While walking to our car, we found out a signboard. The title say "Beneath the Wave".... Upon looking at the photo, we found out the area is full with sea creatures.

There are some great bush walks in the area - the famous Cape to Cape walk passes by Canal Rocks with a route mapped from the car park to Wyadup. It`s a two hour round trip hike and one will be rewarded with stunning views over the Indian Ocean. You might even spot humpback or southern right whales migrating along the coast.

Sugarloaf Rock

This was our first visit for today. We were very happy today, as it was clear blue sky today (no more raining). When we reached here, we were the first to reach here. I guess it was still too early. When there is no one here, we were able to take our own sweet time to take photos.

This place is quite rocky, and the wind was quite strong while we were there. We tried to get good photo when the wind not too strong, and hence we spent a fair bit of time over here. We climbed down to get nearer to the sea, and the view was better. Not too difficult actually.

From the parking area, we need to walk up to the viewing area. However, we preferred to go besides it, which is quite rocky. This place would enable us to climb down a bit towards the edge, and get a better picture of it.

Before we left the area, we met with 2 rangers whom scouting for whale using their binocular. We were told whale was spotted. However, we didn't go to see it as we need to continue with other places we intended to go.

Dunsborough Beachouse YHA

This is the first YHA hostel we stayed for our holiday in Perth. Actually we reached here quite late at night (the previous night), but it was not bad an experience. On our journey previous night, we drove on highway without streetlight, and saw few wild kangaroos. We really enjoy the drives.

When we reached here, we were greeted by 2 volunteers as the reception from New Zealand. They were very friendly, and we chatted for quite a while on the few places of interest at Dunsborough. We were given with a map, and with the help of the 2 Kiwis, we already knew of our journey plan.

At night, we cooked instant noodle with ham, also with some vegetable. We met few guests staying here. From what we see, guess most of them came here for the surfing purposes. They really enjoying their night, and also meeting with other guests from all over the places. I love to join them, but need to sleep early. Was tired driving for long journey as well as need to drive again for the next day.

The next morning, we enjoying the beautiful seaview. This would be a nice place to view morning sunrise, a really good place to begin our days. However, since this just beginning of spring, we didn't swim here as it is still cold, for us at least.

At the kitchen, one could see what is the top 10 things to do at this area. We would love to visit all of them, if time permit us to do it. Would recommend anyone who staying here to try it out.

Cape Naturaliste Lighthouse

From Busselton, we heading towards the lighthouse which takes about 30 minutes. By the time we reached the Lighthouse, we couldn't purchase the entrance ticket anymore as it was about the time to close for the day. We had a quick chat with the reception there, and was told that there were whales sighted on this particular day. We were very exciting about this great news, as we never see whales before.

The reception told us we can walk aroud the Cape Naturaliste area as it is just besides the great ocean and natural park. We decided to choose the "Whale Lookout" point and heading towards the best spot to see the whale. Along the way, we could see lot of plants and flowers. There were few other groups there enjoying the scene as well, and we had a quick chat with a group of travellers from Germany.

The whales is easily spotted from afar, but we mean really from afar. I would put an estimates about a kilometres from the cliff where we stood. It would be great if one bring along binocular to get a better view. We could see the water bubbles from the sea, the caudal fin comes out from the sea, and whow.... you see it... I mean I might be excited for the first time seeing the whale.

We could see the lighthouse as well from afar. Since it is about sunset with clear sky, it was breathtaking view. Though we can't entered the lighthouse, but clearly we were satisfied as we could wonder around the beautiful scenary over here. The lighthouse was activated in 1904, constructed of limestone quarried from nearby Bunker Bay.

As we walked around the area, we saw wild kangaroos around. Though we could see lot of it in zoo, but this is the first time I encountered wild kangaroo with such a short distance. Since the area is natural park, it has lot of kangaroos over here. In short, we were happy as could see the wild animals and whale over here.

Before we leaving, we enjoying the sunset view. Just a simple word to describe, "AWESOME". We could see the sun 'eaten up by the sea'. We rushing back to our car heading towards our accomodation before it is too late.

Busselton Jetty

We reached this beautiful tourist spot during lunch time. We still not hungry as we ate lot of chips along the journey over here. We decided to stroll over here first and the weather still good. We proceed to the Interpretive Centre to get ticket to the Underwater Observatory. To our great disappointment, the observatory was closed due to the bad weather the previous week, and we could see the water was not clear enough. Ooouuccchhhh!!!!

We decided to take a walk along 145-year-old jetty, measured at 1,841 metres. It is the longest timber-piled jetty in the Southern Hemisphere. The construction of the jetty commenced in 1853, and continually extended until 1960s. The jetty served to transport the cut timber to the ships, due to the shallow waters of Geographe Bay. The last commercial ship visited the jetty on 17 October 1971. On 21 July 1972, the jetty was closed to shipping.

Since the jetty is closed, government also ceased the maintenance work causing the jetty to start deteriorating. On year 2009, a AUD$27.1 million contract was awarded for the refurbishment of the jetty. I was proud to read that local community has taken the effort for fund-raising to keep this proud monument as intact as possible, and subsequently become one of the main tourist spot in the area. I'm proud of you!!! On 6 Feb 2011, the jetty was re-opened for the public again.

One of the attraction over here is the train. One can purchase the ticket from the centre, boarding the train to the Underwater Observatory and enjoying the beautiful surroundings. However, we decided to walk along this jetty as we truly like the environment here. When visiting the area, take a look on how the train make a U-turn to go back to the centre, as the rail is only a one way rail.

Once we reached the Underwater Observatory, we only able to visit the center. We are not allowed to descend to the underground tower, which is about 8 metres below the sea level. From the pictures at the tower, at any good day one able to view vivid color coral and school of fishes. What a day for us....Might be another reason for us to re-visit this place again in future.

Back Beach a.k.a Hungry Hollow

Since it is windy and beginning of springs, we didn't dare to touch the water. What we did just take photo and stroll around the beach. Water was not that clear on that day, and the wave was quite strong. We had our time here planning of our next journey.

At any good day, one can enjoy the pristine white sandy beach with all sort of water activities. It is excellent spot for swimming, surfing and even snorkelling. Besides that, beach fishing is also a popular activity over here.

Bunbury Town

Location: Bunbury Town, Western Australia. This location actually is nearby to Lighthouse Lookout.

We reached Bunbury town about around noon time. The first stop we had in this town was Bunbury Dolphin Discovery Centre. We had a look at the centre, and was told that there is no dolphin sighted for today. We made the decision to skip this centre and proceed to the Lighthouse which is just around the corner.

When we reached the Lighthouse, it started to drizzling. It caused us not able to take photo for the lighthouse and make our way to the nearby beach. We saw some people there stand on the rock looking at the wave hitting the rock.

The wind was quite strong, making the wave hitting the rock hard. We really enjoying the wave and the strong wind. We did really enjoying the wind blowing onto our face, thus refreshen ourselves from the long tired drive. Not long after that, it started to drizzling again. It makes us to continue for our next stop.

Today, Bunbury is one of the Western Australia largest towns. However, the town was first sighted by French explorer Captain Louis de Freycinet from his ship, Casuarina in 1803. He named the area Port Leschenault after the expedition's botanist, Leschenault de la Tour. The bay was named Geographe after another ship in the fleet.

Mandurah City

We drove from Perth heading to Bunburry for our first attraction's stop (about an hour drive). With only Garmin as our guide, we just blindly follow the direction using it. Along the way, we came across this beautiful city from the highway, and decided to make a quick stop to enjoy the view. We just follow the sign board heading to the riverside.

It was recreational park while we turn inside the road, heading towards riverside. From there, we just enjoying the clear skies as well as the serene surrounding. We started to snap few photos, and by then we saw dolphin swimming along the river. What a pleasant surprise for us for this short pit stop.

After about 10 minutes, we packed our gear again and ready to continue our journey to Bunburry. It is indeed a good stop for us to refresh ourselves before continuing our journey.

We purchased 2 rooms during the previous Matta fair, and decided to book the room since it is expiring. Packed with our stuff, we came here together with my sister and brother-in-law. We decided to to drive along the coastal road to Port Dickson, which means we are driving through Banting and going to Port Dickson. Even though it is longer route, we feels relax and this is suppose to be. Along the way, we decided to stop at Tg Sepat and pay a visit to my aunty's house.

Not long after we start our journey, we make another short stop. This time we stop by the roadside because we want to buy some fruits, and there are aplenty of dragon fruit stalls along the road. Soon, we reach our intended destination.

Soon we check-in to our room, premium water chalet. The room was nice, comfy and has a king size bed with additional bed besides it. We liked the room's setting, a bit classical if you would like to ask me. After the sleep, we called up to the housekeeping, requesting for wine glass and some ice. To our horror, it took bout an hour and we still can't received what we request. We make another call to follow up. Next, we need to call up again for technician to fix our TV. It can't display the program properly, and it takes more than half an hour to fix it. What a waste of time waiting for both of the request, and I mean it's real waste of time compare with the price we paying.

At night, we had our dinner at the hotel. The food is quite pricy, but luckily we have bought the discounted coupun during the Matta fair. Food is average rating over here. During the dinner, we ordered pizza as our supper. The waiter was kind enough to send it to our room at specific time, which he does not need to do it. Credit to the waiter. Breakfast at the hotel also doesn't give us a good memory, except some jokes created by the hotel's resident there.

We would recommend one to visit the Spa, as the centre is built from glass and looks classy. The lounge is gorgeous, awesome. We didn't take any treatment over here, but ordered some drinks and enjoying the view.

Upon check-out, we complained to the front counter staff and he seems doesn't understand what we are trying to say. Fed-up with it, we request to see the manager in duty and explains our experience we had during the stay. She noted down and mentioned will take actions with it. The manager even gave us her contact number, and mentioned that we can call her if we are coming back for another stay.

Overall, the surrounding scenery is beautiful especially during the sunset. But we do hope the hotel management can raise their bar for their services, a 5-stars service in line with the hype we heard about this hotel before we made our booking.

Pekan Fishing Trip... 1st ??

We started this trip from KL at 2pm on 29th Apr. I took a half day leave for today so that we can start our journey earlier and get a rest in Pekan. Actually for this trip, there were 2 of us from KL, and there is another 2 person coming all the way from Penang. The Penangites are my colleague's friend. They bought the live prawn from Penang, and bring it to Pekan for this trip.

We stopped by at Kepong Tackle to buy some accessorries. Actually we wanted to buy "Jackson Pintails" for sailfish purposes. However, it was sold out there. I didn't buy anything at the end. We continue our journey and reached Genting Sempah. Stopped by here for a refreshment at McDonald and waiting for our friend from Penang. From here, we continue our journey to Pekan.

Actually we have booked our accomodation at Polo Inn, and we manage to find the inn. It is situated next to Royal Pahang Polo Club, and also palace. Pekan is royal city for Pahang. We were informed by the guard that we should check-in to Melati Inn which not far from here. Though tired throughout the journey, we still need to our way to the inn. Once we checked-in, we looking for our dinner in the town and settle down for the night. I was very excited thinking about the fishing trip the next day...

The next morning (30th Apr), we started our trip at 7am. Gathered at the jetty, we met our boatmen and depart. We started the day to fish "parrot fish". Boatmen told us that the sea water was very clear, and it might not be a good fishing trip. Once we parked our boat for the first fishing spot, we actually able to see the bottom of the sea even though it was 50 feets deep down.

It's not my day though, I couldn't get any fish till noon. The rest of them manage to get themselves types of fishes. Not until evening, I'm able to get the biggest parrot fish for the day. We rounded up our day with quite a number of fishes, at least for me.

On the second day (1st May), we also started our trip at 7am. Once we finished our breakfast and packed some foods for ourselves, we immediately depart from the jetty again. Today we are again going for few spots. Actually we wanted to go to ship wreck spot, but the boatman said it is wasting time to go there as the water is very clear and hard to get fish over there. At the end, we changed few spots and get some other fishes.

At the last spot, we went to fish mackerel. Boatmen helped us to fish as well. At this spot, we able to catch few. I saw a sailfish want to biting our bait, and chasing all the way to under our boat's engine. This is the first time I see sailfish, though we didn't catch any in this trip.

At the end of this trip, we divided our catches equally among four of us. Later, we went to take our dinner for our usual restaurant but too bad, it was close on today. At the end, we end up taking our dinner at a Malay restaurant. Once we finished our dinner, we continue our journey back to KL. For the Penangites, they stayed over night and continue their journey back to Penang the next day.

For this trip, it was quite sad that my brother-in-law not able to make it. We are planning for another trip to Pekan again so that he can join in. And also for the next trip, we try to get another boatman which is good in bottom fishing. Hopefully, the next trip is not far away...

Flying Rice @ Com Nieu Sai Gon

Though I've been to another restaurant with the same theme, "flying rice", I think this is more authentic. We just finished our workshop where I asked my customer for direction to the restaurant. Not sure whether the taxi driver brought us to the intended restaurant or not, but still we able to see this special culinary in HCMC.

Waiter will smash the claypot and throw the rice across from one end to another end in the restaurant. Don't be surprised or shocked whenever the waiter start to smash the claypot. Once the waiter at the other end able to catch the rice, it will be served to the customer. Before it is served, the rice will be cut into quarters. The rice is topped with sesame seeds and vegetable. It is crispy as need to make the rice solid before the waiter able to throw it. It's just an ordinary rice, but special due to the process of serving the food.

Besides that, we also ordered other dishes. However, we feels that it's just an ordinary dish. We've ordered pork knuckle. Another dish should be crab stuffed with some vegetable, couldn't remember what was it actually.

One should try out at this restaurant to see yourself on how the rice is served, which is quite unique in HCMC.

Food around Ben Thanh Market

Location: Food stalls beside Ben Thanh Market at night.

We just dropped by at one of the stall available along the street. Today we try to get something different, as we have came to this stall before this. As there is limited photo available in the menu, we just ordered according to our instinct.

We ordered "turned egg roasted with salt tamarind". We thought this is just another egg with some local cooking style. When the food came, it was to our surprise. Actually this is the "balut" version of Philippine, where the egg has embryo in it served with gravy. Though the egg is tasteless, the gravy taste sweet. At first we hesitate to eat, but since Serene decided not to eat it, I've decided to finish it all rather than wasting it. Wow.... I just couldn't believe I've finish the whole thing. Speechless...... OMG!!!

Besides that, we also ordered "rice omlette with bean antiger". I've tried to order this many times, but I just couldn't order the correct dish except whenever I'm with my local friend. This time around, I just make sure to remember the name and can order it in future. It taste good for this. One can try with the sauce available.

This is BBQ pork. Sweet in taste. Simple and tasty, that's what I can describe it.

Thanh Binh Restaurant

Location: At the junction besides Ben Thanh Market. Easily spotted.

I've been here during my first business trip to HCMC, where my customer brought me to try out the noodle. I try to find again this spot after that, but I couldn't recognise it since it was quite some time after my last visit. However, still manage to get to this restaurant after few tries, and furthermore has promised Serene to try something different.

We ordered the pork stick to the sugar cane, and together with other vegetables such as cucumber, star fruits etc to make the spring roll ourselves. Typical Vietnamese food, but it taste really good. One need to smash the meat to small pieces and start to roll it. Dip the food onto the peanut sauce. This size of dish should be enough for 3-4 persons as we still ordering other stuff to eat.

We also order the shrimp spring roll (ready rolled). Another local foods which I like a lot. If look at the shrimp, it is very fresh as still reddish in color. This should be dip to another sauce, a clear color sauce. Another yummy stuff that should try out.

Finally, we ordered the shrimp and crab meat nooddle. This very much to our delight. The size just suitable for us, and not that oily.

Last but not least, we ordered our favourite juice. I've ordered the sapodilla fruit juice, which I think is famous in HCMC. Hard to find this juice at other SEA countries. I love this juice very much which I make it a must have list everytime for my HCMC trip. Another juice is strawberry juice.

Overall, this is a must try restaurant whenever in HCMC. It is very easy to find restaurant and one can try lot of local cuisine over here, not to mention the reasonable price.

Broga Hill... nice place to watch sunrise

We organised this trip quite late or indeed it was a last minute trip. We went in 3 cars, where we met in Cheras toll at about 5.00am in the morning. Indeed, I guess this was the earliest day we woke up this year. Though a bit blur blur at first, but thinking about the photo taking session and hiking hill, we have to forgo our sweetdream.

From the Cheras toll plaza, it took us about 45 minutes to reach Broga Hill. By the time we reach the foothill, it was full of people. Hence, it was a bit hard to find parking at dark. We decided to park in the palm oil estate, where we need to pay for parking fees.

We quickly change our gear for hiking. Though it was dark, but we could see light shining through the dark. There are lot of people already start hiking up the hill before us. Some in small group and some in big group. Some has setup the stall selling stall on the way up, which really amazed me. Is this what we call economic crisis badly hit people?

When we start hiking up, we need to follow those people walking in front of us. What came into our mind was some people is considerate, and some is without their civic mind. Why? One would find out when hiking up to the hill nowadays. There is a Chinese saying, "people mountain people sea".

It took us about 40 minutes to reach the first lookout point. By the time we reached there, we hardly find any place to rest and to setup our tripod for photo shooting. We continue our journey to the second lookout point. Over here, we found a nice spot to rest. We brought some coffee all the way up, and starting to enjoying the breathtaking scenary from hilltop. When we look back at the first lookup point, wow... it really packed with people.

After enjoying the view, we start photoshooting. Since it is almost sunrise, we could see the midst at the Broga town. It was really nice to enjoy the fresh air on the hilltop while do some photoshooting. After staying on top for a while, we descent at about 8.30am. We decided to have a quick breakfast in Broga Hill before heading back to our home.

Natural Batik Village... a batik in making....

Our journey continues to Kuantan, and on the way, we did stop by at this batik village. "Batik" is a cloth that traditionally uses a manual wax-resist dyeing technique to produce. We did some research to come over here as this is one of the biggest batik store available in east coast. Furthermore, batik is famous in east coast.

Our search doesn't let us down on the visit. Though from outside it's look like another store selling the clothes, but what really capture us during the visit was the manufacturing area besides the store. Maybe it was lunch break, when we visited the manufacturing area, it was no people at that time.

We are able to visit and see some of the cloth where it was hanging there for production. We saw a white cloth designed with some pattern, guess it was drawn with wax not long ago. One can freely design their pattern on the cloth. Most of design comes with flower design.

Once the design is ready, it will goes for coloring process. There are 2 method for the coloring:
1. Hand painting color where one will fill the cloth with colors by using brush.
2. Soak the cloth with color, and only 1 color for each soak.

After that, the next process is called "Color Fixing" where the dried cloths will be soaked into sodium silicate. Finally, the cloth will be soaked with soda ash mix with pipe water to remove the wax.

Here, the wax is boiled and ready to be use for waxing on the cloths.

Over here, the color is ready for the coloring process. There are lot of colors to choose from. One can use the brush to paint the cloth after the waxing process.

This is called canting, a wooden handled tool with a tiny metal cup with a tiny spout which the melted wax will seeps out.

Over here, all the finished products is hung up to dry. We took our time to see the finished product and also appreciate on the detailed workmanship done. We also came across to know that this center also provide lesson for the first timer or enthusiast to learn up the batik making process. One also can make their own master piece over here.

Short trip aka Birthday celebration

Took a short break after the hectic schedule ever since the CNY this year. The break coincide with Serene's birthday this year. Since it was really a hectic day, just a small celebration at home. Bought the colorful jelly cake as a replacement of the normal big cake. Anyway, it is with whom you celebrate, not how big the cake, isn't it?

The next day, we heading to Cherating, a small town furtherdown from Kuantan. We didn't have any high expectation as there is no really a good hotel to choose from the internet, and also the review wasn't that good. True to our expectation, the hotel that we stayed in not up to the par.

From Cherating, we did some scouting around the places and found out this small fisherman jetty which is in dilapidated condition. However, we did stop for a moment under the hot sun, and done some photo shooting.

After rounding the town, we found this beach. Not a very good beach to recommend, but just to relax for a while after the long driving journey. We didn't stop for long, as there is nothing that we can look forward around this area. We continue our journey to Kuantan later on.

Nearby Penang coast

Went to this fishing trip while we were on holiday to Penang. Weather was so nice, sea was calm and clear water that allowed me to go for this trip. Though it was so called last minute trip, as I only brought my reel and rod. Since it was go ahead, my other friend prepared the rest of the equipment and the itinerary.

Once we were on boat, we went to pick up the octopus from the sea. It was always the same spot, where the death seashell was thrown to the sea, surrounded by mud. The octopus will eventually goes inside the shell for hiding. When we pull up the shell from the sea into the boat, we were waiting for a while. Then the octopus will comes out from the shell and we will keep the octopus in the tank.

Once we throw the octopus into the tank, those octopus will spit out a thick blackish ink making the tank becomes black in color. The main coloring agent of the ink is melanin, which is the same chemical that gives humans their hair and skin color. As the boat moving, the water will be filtered and changed with the water outside from the boat, and once again making the water clear.

It was a good night. We did change for few spots during the night, and luck was on our side. And for this trip, it was one of my first few trip. Hence, I didn't manage to catch many but other fella fisherman able to get their fishes. In total, we able to get more than 20 fishes on that night alone. Once we landed, we dividing the fish equally. Hopefully I'm able to go for the next trip again on this nice island.

2nd Putrajaya International Hot Air Balloon 2010

This is the second year Malaysia hosting this event. We came here early in the morning to catch the morning session of the photo shooting session. Since it is Saturday, we decided to come early to avoid the jam. Soon, we were allowed to enter the compound for the photo shooting.

There is a bag called envelope where the pilot will lay it on the ground. We shouldn't step on the envelope as the pilot is preparing to blow the air into it.

At first, the hot air balloon is partially inflated with cold air from a gas-powered fan, before the propane burner is used for final inflation. I'm so lucky to get a view to catch this photo.

When the envelope starts to grow, there is a co-pilot helping to pull the string, which is tied to the top of the envelope. This need to be done slowly.

From here, one can see the envelope start to ascent and start to form like the shape of the balloon. At this stage, the pilot will start blowing the hot air into the balloon.

There is a burner that attached to the basket at each of the balloon. It will injects a flame into the envelope, heating the air within. The heater is fueled by propane, a liquidfied gas stored in pressure vessel.

This is how the envelope looks alike from the basket whenever the hot air balloon is ready to take off.

We are very fortunate to see all the hot air balloons ready to take off at almost the same time. Since the area is limited due located next to a lake, those balloons will one at a time. It will fly for quite a distance before landing. When landing, there will be vehicle pick up the pilot and the balloon.

For this year Fiesta Balloon, it does comes with new design such as Dark Vader and Levi's Jean.

There are also concurrent activities held at the same time such as para-motors, remote control aircraft flying display etc.

Hopefully this event will keep going on.

Phở 24 a.k.a Pho 24

Phở is a Vietnamese noddles soup, which usually served with beef or chicken. This restaurant is a chain restaurant, where it can be easily spotted around in HCMC area. Apart from being delicious, I like the original taste which of course only can be found in the "home" turf.

Usually I would order the beef pho soup, while my wife will takes the chicken pho soup. Personally, it taste better with beef. However, it depends on individual what taste they would like.
When eating over here, usually I would order the mango fruit juice, as I love this fresh juice whenever in Vietnam. It is very fresh.
The nooddle soup is served with the vegetable, where one can mix the vegetable into the soup to make it more tastier. Generally, the local likes to serve the dished with raw vegetable, which I think make them more healthier.
We also ordered some side dishes, like fried spring roll. I'm not sure we are hungry or likes the local food over here. Just found that generally the food in this restaurant is well served and delicious.

With the environment in the restaurant, would recommend to try out the foods in this restaurant. From the website, found out this restaurant available on other countries such as Hong Kong, Philippines, Korea etc.

1. Prawn with Coconut
This is another delicious food, where it served with fresh prawn. Then, it will be heated up by burning it with fire blocks. Once it is hot, the waitress will come and help to peels off the skin of the prawns for you. By then, you can enjoy the delicious hot prawn. We like this dish due to the fresh prawn provided. One can see from the picture the reddish color of the prawn.

2. Fried prawn
This fried prawn (forgot the name), is a good recommended food. Forgot the name though, but have been searching for the name for quite some time. Previously, have been recommended by my Vietnam's friend, but for this trip, I tried to order it by myself, but I just be lucky to get it correct.

3. Dish like a taugeh, but it is pancake
This is for a light dish, where it can be eat like that serve together with the local beer here. Suggest to try this out here, if you have a big group travelling together and could enjoy more delicious food over here.

Wrap & Roll @ Saigon

This restaurant is famous for the delicacy that need to wrap and roll. Best of all, you can try it which they the restaurant has done it for you.

1. Fresh Spring Rolls with Pork & Prawns
As describe, this is made of pork and prawns. It is nicely rolled for you. It is delicious when it is dipped into the peanut sauce provided.

2. Northern Sytle Spring Rolls with Pork & Vegetable
Another roll. However, this is fried which must be ate while it is hot. Another nice dish that we would like to have while here.

This food also provided with the vegetable, and comes with the wrapper made from rice. One can try it with your hand to wrap it as nicely as possible.

3. Com Goi - Wrapped crispy rice with sun dried squid & flavoured ham
Nicely cooked rice. Maybe we are used to eat rice while having our lunch or dinner.

4. Others
Forgot what's the name for this dish. However, it's does looks like 'nasi lemak' for us. It comes together with pork.

5. Fruit Juice
When comes to HCMC, it would be good to try different kind of fresh fruit juice.

Trip to Japan 2009

The whole trip was planned lot earlier on. We manage to redeem our ticket from MAS for the trip, thus we able to save the money for the flight. We were going there in 2 groups. The first group was both of us, departing from KLIA. Another group is my sis-in-law & her family departing from Singapore, a day later compared with us.

We arrived Narita airport late evening, hence by the time we reached Tokyo actually it is quite late. Furthermore, when we took the train, we missed a stop and making us to travel further and taking time. Luckily, with the guidance of my bro-in-law, we manage to reach our destination. He was 'forced' to wait us at one of the train station to pick us up. The first day was the beginning of our journey to the Land of Rising Sun. For the dinner, he took us to a nice ramen restaurant at one of the shopping mall near his place.

Since we need to wait for my sister-in-law to reach Japan today, basically we have the whole day to visit tourist spot around Tokyo. We went to the Tsukiji Fish Market, dubbed the largest fish market in the world. An eye opener for us. To reach here, we took a train with the guidance of my bro-in-law since his working place also around the corner. After that, we went to Tsukiji Honganji where it is just a walking distance from the fish market. What more, a trip to Japan is considered incomplete if without doing some shopping. Here we were, walking to Ginza (famous for shopping). On the way, we passed by the famous Opera House. According to my bro-in-law, it will undergoing renovation very soon. At Ginza, we found out a shop called Uniqlo selling winter clothing. Definitely it is much more cheaper compare with Malaysia, plus the choices is more to chose from. What else, we did buy some of ourself. Late afternoon, the second group reached Japan (my sis-in-law & her family). We went to eat a super nice Japanese food (those yummy sushi etc) called Sushi Choushi-maru.

Today, we need to wake up early in the morning. It really early in the morning, I think it was about 4am if not wrong, to prepare to catch our experience with "bullet train". Our destination today was going to Osaka. Journey took us about 2 and a half hours. Once we reached there, the first thing we did was check-in to our hotel. It was pre-book by my bro-in-law together with the train ticket. Reason being is everything will be under control and we just need to follow the timing of the train and the rest of the day will be ours to determine. Once we checked in, we wasted no time to go Universal Studio. Too bad, it was raining and dizzling today. We got to make use of those indoor entertainment a lot. That's how we spent our whole day over here. Hopping from one entertainment to another. We had our lunch at Universal Studio. For dinner, we had it at Okonomiyaki Fugetsu, which famous for their "japanese-style pizza". It is very popular in Osaka.

Today we also need to wake up early. Sounds like military training camp huh... everyday need to wake up early to go to the famous places. However, my bro-in-law wake up even earlier because he needs to get the charted van. The van meant to bring us to those famous castle and temple around Osaka and Kyoto area. We bought a lot of Japanese version of "dumpling", but this is available from those convenience store. It taste good, and definitely save us a lot of time as while we travelling, we can eat it in the van. With the help of GPS, we reached Osaka Castle. A quick walkaround over here and we proceed to the next stop, Nijo Castle. For today's route, my bro-in-law has printed out the history of the places that we were going to visit. After the 2 castles visit, we stopped by at another Japanese restaurant to have our lunch. We ordered ala-carte style, and I'm sharing my foods with my wife, of course. After lunch, we went to our first temple called Kinkakuji Temple (Temple of Golden Pavilion) in Kyoto (famous of those temples listed in UNESCO's World Heritage). Then we visited Ginkaku Temple (Temple of Silver Pavilion). The last place that we visited is Kiyomizu Temple, but by the time we reached here, it starting getting dark. So there is limited time to take beautiful picture here. The temple was built without a single nail. At night, we returned the van here and have a simple dinner. We need to catch our bullet train back to Tokyo.

Today our destination is Fujiyama. We chartered another van in Tokyo, and we start our journey early. Along the way to Fujiyama, we saw a group of motocyclist equivalent to our "mat rempit" in Malaysia. Those modified motorbike really can produced deafening sound. Once we reached Mt Fuji, we took some pictures of it. However, it was cloudy day and we were not able to see the Mt Fuji from close up. Legends has it saying that pretty lady would not able to view the mountain. So maybe there were lot of pretty lady in our group.... Then we proceed to have our lunch at Koshu Hoto Kosaku, with their special delicacy called Hoto. It is famous for the dishes served with pumpkin. From here, we continue to go to Yeti Ski Resort. Most of us having first time to play with snow. We rented a snowboard and have fun at the ski resort. At night, while we were back to Tokyo, we visited Tokyo Tower. Though it is taller than Eiffel Tower by 13 metres, but it is not as famous as Eiffel Tower. We spent some time here and went up to the first level to have a nice night view of Tokyo. We had a simple dinner before call it off for the day.

Another early morning call today. We were going to Tokyo DisneySea, and my nephew and me went to DisneySea to queue up at the main entrance. I'm wondering why need to go so early, and by the time when we reached DisneySea, there were many people already there. My bro-in-law went back to his house to fetch the rest over here. It was getting crowded and long queue just before the main gate open for visitors to go in. We might be getting here early, but it does save a lot of time later when going in and enjoying the ride. If late, maybe it would take about an hour just to get pass the main entrance. My kind bro-in-law does not following us for most of the games / rides, but most of the time he helped us to get the Fast Pass for us. This pass mainly means that we are legitimate to cut the long queue for certain games / rides. With this pass, I can say we able to enjoy 90% of all the rides here. We spent the whole day here walking non-stop. We bought 2 days ticket for DisneySea and Disneyland, and of course it would be cheaper.

Another day that we need to wake up early, and the same routine. My nephew and me need to go to Disneyland and queue there. It was freezing cold that morning. My bro-in-law need to make 2 trip to fetch us there first, and follow by the rest later. Luckily his house just nearby Disneyland and DisneySea. We did spent the whole day here as well. What is good between these 2 theme parks is you will never tired of the games. It was well designed that can cater for all ages of visitors.

Today we chartered another van to go to Yokohama. Best thing in Japan here is all the chartered vehicle has the option whether to get the GPS or not. This definitely useful for tourist like us if we would like to travel around. Our destination is Yokohama Hakkeijima Sea Paradise. Lot of sea creatures that hardly seen in Malaysia such as white whale and polar bear. Also the spectucular show which I would say a must watch. Another attraction for me is forming a Christmas Tree from fishes. See to believe it yourself. While on the way back, we stopped by at Toyota Showroom, one of the biggest. There are 2 sections, modern car or classic car. We chosen the modern car, and able to see lot of impressive car. Also, we able to view the F1 simulation in the mega theater like those motion master. At night, we had our dinner at Tonkatsu Wako, another favourite dishes that we all like. Yummy....

Today, it is not as tiring before, we does not required to wake up early in the morning. Thus having luxury to sleep a little bit late. We went to Sensoji Temple, the oldest temple in Tokyo. Over here, we could buy some souvenir to bring home. A bit disappointed because the temple was under renovation, but we still could visit other places around here. This followed by Imperial Palace, where we need to take another train to reach there. Though we were not able to enter it (hehehe), we still able taking some pictures at the Nijubashi Bridge. We had our lunch somewhere around the Ginza area. This time, we had tempura. Since here, we proceed again to do some shopping. My sis-in-law also getting some winter clothing from Uniqlo. At night, we went to hot water spring. Mid of winter, we soak ourselves in hot water in open air.

There is no places to visit today, so we decided to visit shopping mall. Definitely it is not as grand as what we had back in our home country, but going to some middle class shopping mall. We bought a pair of boots, which I can say is quite cheap. I like it very much. We did hopping from one shopping mall to another today. Very much rest and relax mood.

Packing all our belongings before returning home. At last, we were able to view Mt Fuji from my bro-in-law apartment here. Not bad huh, still can see the famous Mt Fuji even though it is faraway. Hopefully we can come back in future to visit other places. A very nice place to visit here, besides there might be some communication breakdown in between.

Nijubashi Bridge at Imperial Palace

How to get there: A short walk from Tokyo Station.

After our visits to Sensoji Temple, we decided to come over Imperial Palace. While on the way to the Palace, we passed by the garden. We fully awe with the way the garden is maintained. The tree was well trimmed, making it looks like those bonsai tree we saw in homeland...

As we walked nearer to the palace, we came about to the moat. We only able to see the palace from far away. Thus, without wasting time and under the torrid sun we took as many photos as we can.

Nijubashi means the "Double Bridge" is one of the most well-known bridges in Japan. If you are looking at the bridge from the front, the two separate bridges appear as a single two storied bridge.

From Kokyo Gaien, the large plaza in front of the Imperial Palace, visitors can view the Nijubashi, two bridges that form an entrance to the inner palace grounds. The stone bridge in front is called Meganebashi (Eyeglass Bridge) for its looks. The bridge in the back was formerly a wooden bridge with two levels, from which the name Nijubashi (Double Bridge) is derived.

The palace buildings and inner gardens are not open to the public. Only on January 2 (New Year's Greeting) and December 23 (Emperor's Birthday), visitors are able to enter the East Plaza or "To-tei" via the Nijubashi and see the members of the Imperial Family, who make several public appearances on a balcony.

The Imperial Palace East Gardens are open to the public throughout the year except on Mondays, Fridays and special occasions.

Sensōji Temple @ 浅草寺

How to get there: Subway trains are available from the Ginza Subway Line, Asakusa Subway Line, Tsukuba Express and Tobu Railways. From Tokyo Station, take the JR Yamanote Line to Kanda Station, then transfer to the Ginza Subway Line for Asakusa. From Shinjuku Station, take the orange JR Chuo Line to Kanda Station and transfer to the Ginza Subway Line.

Today we didn't go for far distance attraction, but instead we concentrate to visit famous places around Tokyo area. Here it is, we arrived at Tokyo's oldest temple, which is an ancient Buddhist temple. At the main gate, there is a giant red latern welcoming its visitors. It is also known as "Thunder Gate".

On the way to the Sensoji temple, visitor will need to passing Nakamise, which is full of stores alongside the pathway selling lot of souvenirs. It is about 200m long and visitor is spoilt for choices. I have chosen a mini "samurai" as my envelope opener.

Also, we noticed a very big "sandal" hanging on the entrance. Though I not sure what does it mean, I still believe there is a purpose to put such a huge sandal there. Everything has a purpose.

While we were there, the temple is under construction. It was covered by scaffolding. Renovation is expected to be completed by end of November 2010, means it was about 11 months from the day we set our foot there. The slogan they put up really attract my attention. "Today's Work, Tomorrow's Heritage". That's how the place is always kept maintained so that the next generation of our children still able to view the world's heritage.

Once we entered, we able to see the five-story pagoda which standing tall at 48m.

The legend says that in the year 628, two brothers fished a statue of Kannon, the goddess of mercy, out of the Sumida River, and even though they put the statue back into the river, it always returned to them. Consequently, Sensoji was built there for the goddess of Kannon. The temple was completed in 645, making it Tokyo's oldest temple.

Tonkatsu Wako

We came to the restaurant here because it is the easiest restaurant to come to and it is nearby to the place where we returned the car today. Though my wife and myself don't know what we are up for, but we totally have faith in the food my brother-in-law going to introduce to us.

It has few choices to choose from, and it looks the same in the way they present the food. As the food came, it has rice, miso sauce, daikon, salad and the main fried meat. Except the fried meat, the rest is free flow where you can add as you like. We did keep top up the salad, rice and miso. What I'm impressed is the waitress still serve us with a smile, which I would say they are very professional in handling the customers.

The price is reasonable, about 1,100 yen to 1,600 yen.

Every set comes together with a 'strainer'. I think this is a very good way where those additional oil will flow out to the plate, and when we eating it, it is crispy without those oily taste within the meat.

It was very nice where we also had our last tonkatsu meal before leaving Japan. There is a restaurant in the airport. Hopefully will have another chance to come back to Japan, and tonkatsu definitely in my food wish list.

Yokohama Hakkeijima Sea Paradise

When we reached the Sea Paradise, it was a gloomy day. However, the creatures and shows that we watched was amazing. Maybe it is hard for us to watch the sea creature back in our country. We came just in time to watch the show, a jaw dropdown show.

As usual, there was shows like sealion, walrus, dolphin, penguin etc. There are show with "beluga whale" or known as white whale. Would say this was the first encounter with the whale of this type.

I would say that the performer really gave a astounding performance. They really know how to train the sea animals and attract the audience attention. So, who say sea creature is dangerous? How lovely they are with human being whenever they are being well taken care of?

After the show, we proceed to the aquarium. As it was around the Christmas period, there is a aqua show. What is aqua show? In the spirit of Christmas, the sardines in the aquarium could form a Christmas Tree by the sound emitting in the aquarium, or was it because of the lighting in the aquarium. Whatever it is, we are really amazed by the creator of this idea where able to form the Christmas Tree from school of fishes. What a great invention it is.

Another attraction for me is the polar bear. This creature is mainly found in Artic circle. Here, in Japan we are able to see the bear, without need to go through the freezing cold weather in Artic.

After that, we proceed to see the sea creature which is displayed in the aquarium. Another attraction for us. We were able to see lot of sizes of the jelly fish. From as small as you need to use microscope to see right to the size of a book. Besides that, there were some of jelly fish which is transparent, and it is attractive whenever there is colorful light shining on it.

Another sea creature that attract us is the little cute 'eel'. Not sure what it is called, but it is little tiny creature where the head stuck out from the base of the aquarium. Maybe the best comparison that I can say is the creature as tiny as half of our normal ball pen that we using everyday.

There are many other attraction park here that one can visit. For us, we didn't go for every park here.

Hakkeijima Sea Paradise, spread over an island of 24 hectares, comprises of a 16.3 hectares ‘Park Zone’ in Yokohama City and a 7.7 hectare ‘Leisure Zone’. Area-wise, it is 18 times larger than the Tokyo Dome, and is totally a traffic free zone. Yokohama Hakkeijima Sea Paradise in Japan allows you to be in the lap of nature throughout the day and in the evening.

Tokyo Disneyland

How to get there: JR Keiyo Line

This is another MUST visit place while we were in Japan. This was the first Disney theme park resort to be built outside of States. Just like the previous day, I came here to queue early in the morning to avoid the long queue later. However, we found out that guests staying in the resort hotel has the privilege to enter the theme park 30 minutes earlier than us.

Once we entered the theme park, you are welcomed with a floral arrangement depicting some of the famous cartoon character. During our visit, it was the famous Mickey Mouse. Also, we were lucky enough that the cartoon characters was there for some photo shooting. I would say it is pretty hard to have a photo shooting with them, looking at the number of visitors flocking to take the photo with them.

Basically, there are 7 theme lands over here:

Fantasyland
Toontown
Tomorrowland

Finally, I was able to take photo with the world famous Cinderella Castle as the backdrop. It is the famous landmark for every kid to come for.

For every theme lands, the architecture was built accordingly. Example, we were pretty amazed with the way the Toontown was built, every building resembling the cartoons character. We must say that it is a hit regardless of age a person is.

Before coming over here, it would be wise to check more information regarding the parades that available. You wouldn't want to miss out those spectacular parades with the fancy customes resembling the cartoon that we always see on tv. What furthermore impressed us was the way they carry out the character. It was really like what we see on the tv.

I was particularly impressed with Snow White character. The way she looks alike, the way she talk, the way she dressing... flawless would be the best word that I can describe. Definitely grabbing this chance to snap a photo with her, pretending to be the Prince Charming.

When tiring rushing from one game to another, there are many shows available that one might take a rest and enjoying the show. There was a show, where it showing the black and white cartoon's era. The photo taken really reflecting the era, without doing and post processing of it. From there, the backdrop change to the current colorful era.

At night, there are 2 things that one shouldn't miss out. The first was the firework display at the Cinderella Castle. This was follow by the parade. Maybe the parade was special due to the Christmas season around the corner while we were there.

In Disneyland, Japanese is the widely spoken language, even though you are visiting the shows. We were lucky enough that my brother-in-law was well verse with the location in Disneyland. Hence, it really help from getting one attraction to another attraction in shortest time possible.

Another thing to be fully utilized is the FASTPASS. This pass can be easily obtain into a specific machine in specific location. The benefit of it is one can get a shorter time or not going through the queue to enjoy the rides.

Tokyo DisneySea

How to get there: Take the JR Keiyo Line or Musashino Line to Maihama Station

One of the must visit place while in Tokyo. We actually purchased the DisneySea and Disneyland ticket, which is cheaper. In order to visit DisneySea, one need to make a proper preparation before visiting this amazing Disney park. I came here early in the morning to queue before the gate, to get the front line before the main gate is opened for visitor. Imagine it was middle of December during winter.... it is freezing cold... but there are lot of people like us coming early in the morning just to avoid those long queue.

To save time and enjoy more ride on the park, one may opt for FASTPASS. However, we are lucky enough. While we were enjoying our ride, my brother-in-law actually helped us to get the ticket for other ride. So whenever we finish our ride, we were able to get to continue to other ride. With this, we were able to enjoy most of the ride in the park within a day. So remember to plan your journey plan in the park in order to maximise your time there and the ride.

Eacy of the park has their own design which represent the theme, and it is well built.

Besides the nicely built park, of course Disney's character is the attraction within itself. Some of the character meant for photo taking session. However, it was a long queue. Others you may see while they having 'walk' in the park. Lot of people, include us rushing to take photograph with the characters. It really like bringing us back to our childhood, those cartoon characters relive again those old days of ours.

Another attraction is the show available. One need to check the schedule and do make sure never miss the outstanding performance from DisneySea. We particularly like "The Legend of Mythica". It is performed at Mediterranean Harbor which took about half an hour. We just sat there looking at the extravaganza performance which includes firework at the end of the show. Most of the popular Disney cartoon character came out for the show.

At night, there was another show as well at Mediterranean Harbor. Though it was very cold at night, everyone still waiting for the show as it is the best way to end the day trip at DisneySea. At the end of the show, there is firework again, which is nicer as night is approaching.

Tokyo Tower @ 東京タワー

How to get there: The closest subway stations to Tokyo Tower are Onarimon Station on the Mita Subway Line and Akabanebashi Station on the Oedo Subway Line. You can also walk there from Hamamatsucho Station on the JR Yamanote and JR Keihin-Tohoku Line in about 15 minutes.

We came here on the ad-hoc basis, while on the way back from Mt Fuji. While we still have time before returning the rental car, we just came here to have the night view of Tokyo Tower. We parked the car quite far actually, and it was a good view from far away to the tower.

Surprisingly, Tokyo Tower is higher by 13 metres than Paris' Eiffel Tower at 332.5 metres (1,091 ft). The structure is an Eiffel Tower-inspired lattice tower. The tower was built in 1958 as a symbol for Japan's rebirth as a major economic power. The main income are tourism as well as antenna leasing.

There are 2 observatory, where the Main Observatory is located at 150 metres while the Special Observatory is located at 250 metres. We decided to go to the Main Observatory to have an eagle view of Tokyo. One need to purchase the ticket in order to goes up.

While in Main Observatory level, there is a transparent glass floor. We can step on it (if you dare) and see directly to the street. However, not able to get a nice photo as all photos taken there is shaky.

Besides that, there are other attraction on the ground floor which we didn't visit. There is an aquarium, wax museum and separate entrance fees is required.
